นิทรรศการที่ถ่ายทอดส่วนหนึ่งจากประสบการณ์ส่วนตัวในอดีตของศิลปิน ผ่านเรื่องเล่าจากศิลปะจัดวางดอกไม้ และภาพถ่าย ที่ถ่ายทอดตลอดช่วงชีวิตของดอกไม้โดยแบ่งผลงานออกเป็น 3 ชุด ในแต่ละชุดเต็มไปด้วยภาพสะท้อนของความไม่เท่าเทียมที่ผู้คนในรุ่นของเขาต้องเผชิญ และตัวตนของศิลปินเองซึ่งอยู่ร่วมกับยุคสมัยที่พร้อมจะแย่งชิง จำกัดกรอบทางเสรีภาพในการแสดงออกถึงตัวตน และเพศสภาพของตนได้อย่างตรงไปตรงมา มาร่วมตั้งคำถามไปพร้อมกันว่าเราจะเบ่งบานและเติบโตเป็นตัวเราเองได้อย่างไรเมื่อสังคมยังเป็นคนกำหนดกรอบและคุณค่าของเรา

ภายใต้ความเชื่อที่ว่าพวกเราล้วนเป็นสิ่งมีชีวิตที่สวยงาม ทำให้เราตกอยู่ภายใต้ภาพลวงตาที่ว่าเราต่างมีอิสรภาพในการที่จะเติบโต ผลงานของนรภัทรกลับชี้ให้เห็นถึงตำหนิบนภาพลักษณ์ของมนุษย์ และเรียนรู้ไปพร้อมกันว่าความเป็นมนุษย์นั้นส่วนหนึ่งเป็นผลมาจากการเติบโตภายใต้กรอบทางสังคมมากเสียยิ่งกว่ากรรมพันธุ์ที่ส่งต่อระหว่างกัน

งานแต่ละชุดในนิทรรศการครั้งนี้จึงเป็นการนำเอากระบวนการทางศิลปะมาใช้ เพื่อควานหาตัวตนของตนเองอีกครั้งในขณะที่กำลังค้นหาความหมายของความเป็นมนุษย์ ในผลงานชุดแรก ‘Cut Chrysanthemum Production’ กับศิลปะจัดวาง ด้วยดอกเบญจมาศที่วางเรียงราย สื่อถึงความพยายามในการตัดแต่งพันธุกรรมเพื่อให้สวยงามสมบูรณ์ตามความต้องการของตลาด และถูกตัดออกก่อนจะมีโอกาสเหี่ยวเฉาไปตามธรรมชาติ

ชุดที่สอง ‘Flower Refrigerator’ กับผลงานภาพถ่ายเมื่อดอกไม้ต่างๆ ที่ถูกตัดออกมาจากสวนเพื่อขาย ถูกนำมาแช่แข็งให้คงความสวยงามสดใหม่ภายในตู้แช่ และ ชุดที่สาม ‘The Other Side of Flower Arrangement’ กับภาพถ่ายการของการจัดดอกไม้ด้วยภาชนะที่ใช้งานในชีวิตประจำวันของคนชนชั้นกลาง กับคำถามที่ว่าอะไรคือเส้นแบ่งความไม่เท่าเทียม ถ้าไม่ใช่เพราะชนชั้นที่ขีดเส้นแบ่งความเป็นเขาและลดทอนคุณค่าความเป็นเราลง

นิทรรศการ “Nature versus Nurture” ถือเป็นการร่วมงานกันครั้งแรกระหว่างนรภัทรและเอส เอ ซี แกลเลอรี ซึ่งจะจัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 18 มิถุนายน - 13 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2565 ณ ชั้น 3 อาคารหอศิลป์ เอส เอ ซี แกลเลอรี (SAC Gallery) เปิดบริการทุกวันอังคาร - เสาร์ เวลา 10.00-18.00 น. In this solo exhibition, sketching three stages of flowers’ lives to reflect on his own past. He has faced the crisis of having his freedom limited and his identity taken away by society. Beyond that, it mirrors his generation, who were born with inequality and lived without freedom. The exhibition questions how can we grow to be our authentic selves when society seems to be boxing us in and limiting our identities.

Naraphat Sakarthornsap’s works show the flaws in humanity’s appearance. Self-identifying as beautiful creatures, we often grow under the illusion that we actively possess our freedom. During his artistic process, he explores himself while also exploring humanity.

This follows a semiotic floral tradition in art history. The first series named “Cut Chrysanthemum Production” the installation art by the cut Chrysanthemum arrangement on the stage, the flowers are grown to become a perfect product on a farm and thus, denied from growing naturally.
.
The second stage “Flower Refrigerator”, is the presentation of perfection. Once those prime flowers leave the farm, they are caged in refrigerators, turning them into a perfect product. Reach stage 3 “The Other Side of Flower Arrangement” the photos series of the flower arrangements within the daily used containers of the middle class, questioning of what is the line that divides us humans to be inequality. If it wasn’t the division of classes in society that value things and devalues us.

“Nature versus Nurture” is the first solo exhibition by Naraphat Sakarthornsap with SAC Gallery. The exhibition is open for viewing from 18 June - 13 August 2022, every Tuesday-Saturday 10.00-18.00 hrs (Closed on Sundays, Mondays, and public holidays) on the 3rd floor, Art Centre Building, SAC Gallery, Bangkok.
