แนวความคิด
นิทรรศการแลกเปลี่ยนภาพพิมพ์ไทย-เม็กซิโกครั้งที่หนึ่งนี้นับเป็นการเปิดโอกาสให้วงการภาพพิมพ์ของประเทศไทย และประเทศเม็กซิโกได้มาบรรจบกัน ประเทศเม็กซิโกนับว่ามีวัฒนธรรมการพิมพ์ภาพอันยาวนาน ภายใต้เทคนิคแบบดั้งเดิมและร่วมสมัยมากมาย รวมทั้งได้มีการคิดค้นหลากหลายเทคนิคใหม่ ๆ ในช่วงทศวรรษที่ผ่านมา ส่วนในประเทศไทยแม้ว่าศิลปะการพิมพ์ภาพจะยังไม่แพร่หลายจนกลายเป็นศิลปะกระแสหลัก ผลงานทั้งจากศิลปินรุ่นใหม่และรุ่นอาวุโสก็ได้หลั่งไหลเข้ามาเพื่อจับจองพื้นที่จัดแสดงในนิทรรศการแลกเปลี่ยนภาพพิมพ์ครั้งนี้

เนื่องจากเป็นการจัดครั้งแรก กฎการรับสมัครจึงเปิดกว้างสำหรับทุกคน ศิลปินสามารถส่งผลงานได้ไม่จำกัดทั้งหัวข้อหรือเทคนิคการพิมพ์ที่ใช้ ไม่มีการจำกัดอายุศิลปินและไม่ต้องส่งประวัติผลงานที่ผ่านมา หลังจากประกาศรับสมัครไปเมื่อเดือนเมษายนที่ผ่านมา ศิลปินร่วม 147 คนจากทั้งสองประเทศได้ส่งผลงานทั้งหมด 268 ชิ้นเข้าร่วมการคัดเลือก โดยคณะกรรมการชาวไทย นำโดยคุณปิยทัต เหมทัต ศิลปินและผู้ก่อตั้งเทศกาล Photo Bangkok ได้คัดเลือกภาพพิมพ์ของศิลปินชาวเม็กซิโก และคณะกรรมการชาวเม็กซิโก นำโดย Mr. Francisco Limon ศิลปิน เจ้าของและผู้ก่อตั้งหอศิลป์ La Maquina Workshop ได้คัดเลือกภาพพิมพ์ของศิลปินชาวไทย

ผลที่ได้คือผลงานภาพพิมพ์อันมีเอกลักษณ์จำนวน 60 ภาพที่สื่อสารโต้ตอบซึ่งกันและกันได้อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ และสามารถนำเสนอบทสนทนาอันหลากหลายและเต็มไปด้วยความหมายระหว่างศิลปินทั้งสองประเทศ ซึ่งท่านสามารถรับชมได้อย่างเพลิดเพลินราวกับว่ากำลังสื่อสารกับศิลปิน

สถานเอกอัครราชทูตเม็กซิโกประจำประเทศไทยเข้าร่วมโครงการนี้เพื่อสนับสนุนให้เป็นที่รู้จักกันอย่างกว้างขวางมากยิ่งขึ้น และ La Maquina Graphic Workshop and Gallery ยังร่วมสนับสนุนงานศิลปะเพิ่มเติมจำนวน 25 ภาพ จากศิลปินผู้มีชื่อเสียง เช่น Demian Flores, Greta Pruneda, Karina Garcia, Guillermo Olguin, ฯลฯ เพื่อจัดแสดงภายในงาน

Concept
The first Thai-Mexican Printmaking Exchange Program was conceived as an opportunity to create a space where two realities of printmaking could find a shared ground: on the one hand, Mexico has a long-lasting tradition of printmaking under many traditional and contemporary techniques, nevertheless, it has evolved in multiple currents and new expressions in recent years. On the other hand, and although still considered a recent artistic expression, printmaking in Thailand is finding its way in the mainstream visual arts ecosystem, and similar to other places in the world, a diversity of fresh proposals coming either from new expressions of senior artists or from young exponents is rapidly filling the space at exhibition spaces.

On its first edition, the binational Printmaking Exchange Program is meant to facilitate such encounter under very basic principles: artists were not limited in the use of techniques or topics, no age limits and no professional curricula were required. After a public contest released on April 2019, to which at least 147 artists from both countries sent 268 proposals, a professional curator team, under the lead of Piyatat Hemmatat (Thai artist, founder of Photo Bangkok) and Francisco Limon (Mexican artist and gallerist, founder of La Maquina Workshop) selected the 30 Mexican and 30 Thai artworks respectively.

The result is an authentic, organic showcase of 60 printmaking artworks that interact in a spontaneous way and offer a window to a very cross-cutting, diverse and meaningful dialogue between Mexican and Thai artists that the audience can enjoy as if being in a room listening to different simultaneous messages.

The Embassy of Mexico to the Kingdom of Thailand proudly joins this project to support its visibility, with the collaboration of La Maquina Graphic Workshop and Gallery, a side-exhibition of their collection inclusive of 25 additional prints will accompany this exhibition, with the participation of solid artists such as: Demian Flores, Greta Pruneda, Karina Garcia and Guillermo Olguin, among others.
