แนวความคิด
สุภาษิตกล่าวว่า “พระเจ้าไม่ได้อยู่ทุกหนแห่ง ดังนั้นท่านจึงได้สร้างแม่ขึ้นมา” แม้แต่หญิงสาวผู้อ่อนแอจะได้รับความแข็งแกร่งและพลังอันมหาศาลที่สามารถทำให้แผ่นดินสะเทือนและภูเขาทลายเมื่อหญิงสาวได้กลายเป็นแม่ นับตั้งแต่เด็กได้เกิดมา “รอยยิ้ม” ของแม่สามารถปลอบประโลมให้ทารกไม่ร้องไห้และการกอดนั้นจะช่วยให้เด็กรู้สึกปลอดภัยและอบอุ่น และไม่มีสถานที่ใดจะปลอดภัยกว่าความอบอุ่นที่มาจากอกของแม่ “เป้อุ้มเด็ก (A baby carrier)” คือผ้าผืนยาวที่ใช้ผูกเด็กเข้ากับตัวของแม่ ซึ่งสิ่งเหล่านี้ช่วยสร้างความสัมพันธ์อันใกล้ชิดและความคุ้นเคยระหว่างเด็กและครอบครัว

National Museum Of Prehistory, Taiwan and Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, Office of Art and Culture, Chulalongkorn University และ Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Thailand เป็นผู้จัดหลักนิทรรศการนานาชาติ “Baby Carriers” ซึ่งนิทรรศการนี้ได้จัดแสดงทั้งในไต้หวันและมีการจัดแสดงหมุนเวียนในต่างประเทศ โดยจะจัดแสดงอุปกรณ์ที่ใช้อุ้มเด็ก ห่อหุ้มเด็กและผ้าอุ้มเด็กในหลากหลายรูปแบบ ผสมผสานกันกับการเล่าเรื่องราวนับตั้งแต่สมัยก่อนประวัติศาสตร์และวิจัยทางโบราณคดีที่กล่าวถึงความสัมพันธ์กับการเลี้ยงดูและการดูแลเด็กในไต้หวัน นิทรรศการจะนำเสนอภาพรวมของวัฒนธรรมของผ้าอุ้มเด็กและการเลี้ยงดูเด็กของชาวหมิ่นหนาน (Minnan) ชาวฮากกา (Hakka) กลุ่มคนที่พูดภาษาในตระกูลออสโตรนีเซียนในไต้หวัน และครอบคลุมถึงประชากรในบริเวณรอบไต้หวัน อีกทั้ง นิทรรศการยังจัดแสดงผ้าอุ้มเด็ก รวมไปถึงสิ่งของเครื่องใช้ที่ใช้ในการดูแลเด็กจากชนกลุ่มน้อยในบริเวณตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ของจีน กลุ่มคนที่พูดภาษาในตระกูลออสโตรนีเซียนจากเกาะบอร์เนียว, บาหลี, ไซบีเรีย และกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ในเอเชียใต้ ซึ่งชนเผ่าต่างๆและกลุ่มคนได้มีการพัฒนาระบบและรูปแบบของผ้าอุ้มเด็กอันมีพื้นฐานที่มาจากวัฒนธรรมเฉพาะตัวของพื้นถิ่นนั้นๆ, วิถีชีวิต, สภาพอากาศ รวมไปถึงประสบการณ์ทางสุนทรียภาพ อย่างไรก็ตามแม้ว่าจะมีความแตกต่างกันในการออกแบบผ้าอุ้มเด็กแต่ก็มีบางสิ่งที่เหมือนกัน คือ แนวคิดของการเลี้ยงดู, การให้ความสุขและการป้องกันอันตราย นอกจากนี้ยังมีความรักที่มีความเป็นอมตะและเป็นภาษาสากล

การจัดนิทรรศการนี้จะช่วยให้เกิดปฏิสัมพันธ์และการร่วมมือกันทางด้านศิลปะ ระหว่างชุมชนวัฒนธรรม, สถาบันวิชาการและภาคอุตสาหกรรม ซึ่งพยายามที่จะรวมองค์ประกอบทางวัฒนธรรมประเพณีดั้งเดิมเข้ากับความคิดสร้างสรรค์และนวัตกรรม ก่อให้เกิดงานศิลปะจัดวางร่วมสมัยและการออกแบบเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์ทางวัฒนธรรมและสร้างสรรค์ โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ของนิทรรศการเพื่อตระหนักถึงคุณค่าของมนุษยชาติ และเป็นการส่งเสริมสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตกับนานาชาติและทำให้นานาชาติได้ทราบถึงความหลากหลายของชาติพันธุ์และวัฒนธรรมในไต้หวัน

Concept
The deep love of parents to their children is universally alike. People carry babies with various methods throughout the world. Baby carriers free the caregivers’ hands to do the domestic chores while carrying the baby, At the same time body-carrying offers the baby a sense of safety and enhances the closeness between the parent & child. We can realize more about a variety of children-raising methods, religious concepts, social structures, and traditional handicrafts of different cultures and the intense love & expectation of those affectionate & devoted parents by way of appreciating and recognizing different baby-carrying styles and tools used in different regions.

Co-organized by the Taiwan National Museum of Prehistory, Taiwan and Ministry of Culture, Economic & Cultural Office in Thailand and Office of Art and Culture, Chulalongkorn University, the 2018 Asian “Baby Carriers” International Touring Exhibition will showcase a wide array of baby slings, wraps and fabric carriers. This special exhibit will kick off its international tour right here in Taiwan. On a time scale, the exhibit will begin with data from prehistoric and archaeological research in Taiwan relating to parenting and child care. The exhibit will also provide an overview of the culture of baby carriers and child rearing practices of Minnan, Hakka and Austronesian-speaking peoples in Taiwan. On a geographic scale, the scope of exhibition
will be extended to cover Asian peoples in the neighboring areas of Taiwan. The exhibit will display baby slings, carriers and other child care objects used by the ethnic minorities of Southwest China, Austronesian-speaking peoples from different tribe of Taiwan. Different tribes and people groups have developed their own systems and styles of baby carriers based on their unique cultures, ways of living, weather, customs and aesthetic experiences. However, they all have something in common – the concepts of breeding, blessings and protection. Also, love is an everlasting and universal language that is spoken by all.

Exhibition Hall, Admission is free of charge and to the general public.
