- Artist Statement -

Ellen Sheidlin and the Archaeology of Hide and Seek

In her new series "Hide and Seek," Ellen Sheidlin explores the rooms of space between the conscious and unconscious, between childhood and adulthood, between light and darkness.

The artist poses the question: what happens when the object of search and the searching subject merge into one? This narrative unfolds through a series of canvases where a child figure, illuminated by dim light, comes to ask questions " anyone there ?" "Can you see me?" and the culmination "I found you."

Words telling of post-memory, exploring how childhood experiences shape adult identity. Sheidlin invites the viewer to immerse themselves in a labyrinth of memories, where the boundaries between past and present, reality and fantasy become permeable. Where one has to climb higher up the spiral staircase to self-knowledge into a new room, a real room with installation and viewers.

"And my real room is the whole world filled with questions, where deer antlers have grown into reality, entangling and liberating, where the candle becomes a symbol that on one hand promises enlightenment, on the other - blinds, hiding more than it reveals. This paradox reflects the complexity of the process of self-knowledge, where each step towards truth can lead to new questions.

Questions to the viewer from me:
"What if what you're looking for is actually looking for you?"
"If you could hide from one part of yourself, which part would it be?"
"At what point does searching for yourself turn into running from yourself?"
"When was the last time you really found yourself?"

Ellen's newest series "HIDE AND SEEK” will debut as a mini solo exhibition at Joyman Gallery, featuring oil paintings on panel and linen, site-specific installation art, and video art.

- About the artist -

Ellen Sheidlin is a renowned Russian female artist in age of 30. She typically creates new-surrealist works of art in various techniques, including oil painting on canvas, ceramic sculpture, and Survirtualism in digital art forms like video art and photography. With a decade-long career, Ellen has gained 4 million followers on Instagram. She has achieved early success, showcasing her work in numerous exhibitions worldwide, including New York, USA; London, UK; Tokyo, Japan; Australia; Italy; and Dubai. So far, Ellen has held six solo exhibitions in multiple countries and collaborated with global brands like Nike, Coca-Cola, BMW, Pepsi, etc. Furthermore, Ellen won the World Influencers and Bloggers Award from WIBA Academy LLP in Cannes, France in 2022 ; she was the Jury in Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize 2023.

เอเลนได้เริ่มผลงานซีรีส์ใหม่ชื่อ Hide and Seek เรื่องราวของการเดินทางครั้งนี้เป็นพูดถึงที่ที่ทุกคนซ่อนตัวและเสาะแสวงหาตัวเอง เป็นผลงานจินตนาการในแนวเหนือจริง(เซอร์เรียลลิสต์)ที่พาเราไปแอบสังเกตการณ์ที่ที่ไม่ใช่ในความฝัน แต่เป็นเหตุการณ์เกิดขึ้นขณะตื่น เพียงภาพที่อยู่ตรงหน้าไม่น่าจะเป็นไปได้หรือพบเห็นในโลกปกติ(Magical Realism) โดยมีเด็กผู้ชายเป็นตัวละครหลัก เด็กน้อยเข้าไปอยู่ในบ้านที่มีบางอย่างซ่อนตัวอยู่และมันกำลังถูกเด็กชายพบ ซึ่งในท้ายที่สุดเด็กน้อยจะได้เจอสิ่งที่ตัวเองตามหาเช่นกัน ผลงานชุดนี้จะเปิดตัวเป็นครั้งแรกด้วยการจัดแสดงเป็นMini solo exhibition ณ จอยแมน แกลเลอรี ประกอบด้วยผลงานจิตรกรรมสีน้ำมันบนไม้และบนผ้าลินิน, งานศิลปะจัดวางสัมพันธ์กับพื้นที่ (Site-specific installation art) และวิดีโออาร์ต

เอเลนเป็นศิลปินหญิงผู้มีชื่อเสียงชาวรัสเซียในวัย 30 ปี ผลงานสร้างสรรค์ของเอเลนเป็นรูปแบบศิลปะแนวเหนือจริงแบบร่วมสมัย(นิวเซอร์เรียลลิสต์) ถ่ายทอดผ่านเทคนิคทั้งจิตรกรรมสีน้ำมันบนผ้าใบ ประติมากรรมเซรามิค หรืองานSurvirtualism ในเทคนิคดิจิตอลอาร์ต เช่น วิดีโออาร์ตและภาพถ่ายรีทัช เป็นเวลากว่าสิบปีแล้วในเส้นทางศิลปินอาชีพกับยอดฟอลโลว์ 4 ล้านในอินสตาแกรม เอเลนประสบความสำเร็จตั้งแต่เยาว์วัย จากการแสดงงานในนิทรรศการต่าง ๆ มาแล้วทั่วโลก เช่น นิวยอร์ค สหรัฐอเมริกา, ลอนดอน อังกฤษ, โตเกียว, ออสเตรเลีย, อิตาลี, ดูไบ เธอมีนิทรรศการแสดงเดี่ยวมาแล้วถึง 6 ครั้งในหลายประเทศ การทำงานคอลแลบกับแบรนด์ระดับโลกอย่าง Nike, Coke, BMW และ Pepsi เป็นต้น รวมถึงรางวัลชนะเลิศ World Influencers and Bloggers Award ในปี 2022 จาก WIBA Academy LLP เมืองคานส์ ประเทศฝรั่งเศส และการเป็นหนึ่งในกรรมการตัดสินรางวัล Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize ของสื่อและนิตยสารศิลปะชื่อดังในปี 2023
