แมทดอต อาร์ต เซนเตอร์ เปิดตัวนิทรรศการ "Every Day Good / ทุกวัน เป็นวันที่ดี" ศิลปินร่วมสมัยชาวสิงคโปร์ วินเซนต์ เลียว ประกอบด้วยการแสดงภาพวาดลายเส้นบน กระดาษจํานวนมากกว่าหนึ่งร้อยชิ้น สะท้อนมุมมองและความรู้สึกของศิลปินที่มีต่อประสบการณ์การสูญเสียของมนุษย์ ความวุ่นวายและการทําลายล้างที่เกิดจากความขัดแย้งที่เป็นอยู่ในโลกปัจจุบัน

ผลงานภาพวาดลายเส้นขาวดําอันยุ่งเหยิงเหล่านี้ ประกอบขึ้นจากการทับซ้อนของเรือนร่างมนุษย์ สิ่งก่อสร้าง และวัตถุอีกมากมายที่ไม่อาจระบุได้ พวกมันเปรียบเสมือนบันทึกประจําวันของศิลปิน ระหว่างการเป็นศิลปินพํานักที่แมทดอต อาร์ต เซนเตอร์ วินเซนต์ได้รับรู้ข่าวสารเกี่ยวกับสงครามและความรุนแรงที่เกิดขึ้นในพื้นที่ต่างๆ ทั่วโลกที่ถูกรายงานผ่านสื่อสังออนไลน์ แม้ว่าเหตุการณ์อันน่าสะเทือนใจเหล่านี้จะดูห่างไกลจากตัวเรา แต่มันคือเหตุการณ์จริงที่เกิดขึ้นซ้ําแล้วซ้ําเล่า ก่อให้เกิดความโกลาหลและความสูญเสียวันที่ดีของเราอาจเป็นวันอันแสนเลวร้ายของผู้คนอีกมากมายมหาศาล ศิลปินต้องการให้ผลงานชุดนี้สร้าง ความตระหนักถึงภัยอันตรายที่กําลังบ่อนทําลายมนุษยชาติอย่างไม่หยุดยั้ง

นิทรรศการ "Every Day Good / ทุกวันเป็นวันที่ดี" เปิดให้เข้าชมโดยไม่เสียค่าใช้จ่าย ตั้งแต่วันที่ 4 มิถุนายน – 7 กรกฎาคม 2567 ณ แบลคลิสต์ แกลเลอรี่, แมทดอต อาร์ต เซนเตอร์ ถนนหลานหลวง เขตป้อมปราบศัตรูพ่าย กรุงเทพฯ โดยจะมีพิธีเปิดนิทรรศการในวันอังคารที่ 4 มิถุนายน 2567 เวลา 18.00 น.

เกี่ยวกับศิลปิน

วินเซนต์ เลียว (เกิดปี 2504) เป็นหนึ่งในศิลปินร่วมสมัยคนสําคัญของสิงคโปร์ ปฏิบัติการทางศิลปะของ เขามีส่วนในการพัฒนาวงการศิลปะร่วมสมัยของสิงคโปร์ ในฐานะจิตรกร เขาเป็นที่ยอมรับผู้สร้างสรรค์ ผลงานได้อย่างโดดเด่น ผ่านสื่อหลากหลายประเภท ไม่ว่าจะเป็นประติมากรรม จิตรกรรม ภาพพิมพ์ วาดเส้น วิดีโอ และอีกมากมาย นอกจากนี้ ผลงานของเขายังแสดงให้เห็นอิทธิพลมากมายจากวัฒนธรรมสมัยนิยม วรรณกรรม ภาพยนตร์ การเมือง และสื่อสารมวลชน

หลังสําเร็จการศึกษาระดับประกาศนียบัตรด้านศิลปะและประติมากรรมจาก LASALLE College of the Arts ในปี 2530 วินเซนต์เข้าศึกษาต่อในระดับปริญญาโทด้านศิลปะที่ Maryland Institute รัฐเมสซา ชูเซตต์ สหรัฐอเมริกา จนสําเร็จการศึกษาในปี 2534 และได้รับปริญญาเอกด้านศิลปะจาก RMIT University, เมืองเมลเบิร์น ประเทศออสเตรเลีย ในปี 2548

วินเซนต์เป็นหนึ่งในสมาชิกรุ่นบุกเบิกของกลุ่มศิลปิน The Artist Village ที่ก่อตั้งขึ้นในปี 2531 โดย Tang Da Wu ศิลปินผู้มีชื่อเสียงของสิงคโปร์ และต่อมาเขาก็ได้มีโอกาสบริหารจัดการพื้นที่อื่นๆ ที่ ดําเนินการโดยศิลปิน วินเซนต์เป็นหนึ่งในผู้ก่อตั้ง Plastique Kinetic Worms พื้นที่ที่ดําเนินการโดยศิลปินที่มีบทบาทอย่างมากในวงการศิลปะสิงคโปร์ช่วงทศวรรษ 2530-2540

หอการค้าและอุตสาหกรรมแห่งญี่ปุ่นมอบรางวัลวัฒนธรรมแก่เขาในปี 2545 จากผลงานด้านศิลปะของเขา วินเซนต์ยังเป็นตัวแทนของประเทศสิงคโปร์เข้าร่วมแสดงผลงานในนิทรรศการระดับนานาชาติมากมาย อาทิ มหกรรมศิลปะนานาชาติ เวนิส เบียนนาเล ครั้งที่ 52 ในปี 2550 Indian Triennial of Contemporary Art ครั้งที่ 9 ที่กรุงนิวเดลี ประเทศอินเดีย ในปี 2540 และ Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art ครั้งที่ 1 ที่เมืองบริสเบน ประเทศออสเตรเลีย ในปี 2536

นอกจากการศิลปินอิสระแล้ว วินเซนต์ยังเป็นผู้ถ่ายทอดองค์ความรู้ด้านศิลปะแก่เยาวชนมาตลอด ตั้งแต่ปี 2546-2550 เขาเป็นอาจารย์สอนที่ LASALLE College of Arts ประเทศสิงคโปร์ ก่อนย้ายไปเป็น อาจารย์ที่ University of Sharjah, College of the Arts สหรัฐอาหรับเอมิเรตส์ ตั้งแต่ปี 2551-2556 ปัจจุบัน เขาดํารงตําแหน่งอาจารย์ประจําที่ School of the Arts (SOTA) ประเทศสิงคโปร์

แมทดอต อาร์ต เซนเตอร์ คือพื้นที่ศิลปะ ณ ย่านเมืองเก่าใจกลางกรุงเทพมหานคร ก่อตั้งโดยคุณธวัชชัย สมคง บรรณาธิการบริหารนิตยสารไฟน์อาร์ท ในปี 2563 เพื่อเป็นพื้นที่เชื่อมต่อระหว่างผู้คนในโลกศิลปะ ไม่ ว่าจะเป็นศิลปิน ภัณฑารักษ์ นักสะสมงานศิลปะ นักศึกษา หรือผู้รักงานศิลปะ ภายในกลุ่มอาคารสามหลัง ย่านถนนหลานหลวง พื้นที่ใช้สอยอันหลากหลายตั้งแต่คาเฟ่ สตูดิโอ ห้องประชุมอเนกประสงค์ ห้องทํางาน ส่วนรวม ไปจนถึงห้องพัก เปิดโอกาสให้ทุกคนได้เข้ามาใช้เวลาร่วมกันเพื่อสร้างสรรค์สิ่งใหม่ๆ หรือแม้แต่การขยายความร่วมมือไปยังชุมชนภายนอกทั้งในไทยและต่างประเทศ

นอกจากผลงานศิลปะที่สอดแทรกอยู่ในทุกซอกทุกมุมของพื้นที่ที่ได้รับการออกแบบมาเป็นอย่างดีผ่านสายตาของภัณฑารักษ์ ภายในอาณาบริเวณของแมตดอทยังประกอบไปด้วยห้องแสดงนิทรรศการสองแห่ง ที่มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเป็นทางเลือกในการนําเสนอศิลปินไทยและศิลปินนานาชาติให้เกิดการแลกเปลี่ยน เรียนรู้อย่างกว้างขวาง ได้แก่ Blacklist Gallery สําหรับจัดนิทรรศการหมุนเวียนโดยศิลปินที่ได้รับเชิญให้เข้า มาทํางานร่วมกับเรา และ Matdot Gallery สําหรับแสดงผลงานของศิลปินในพํานัก

MATDOTArt Centerunveils the exhibition “Every Day Good” by contemporary Singaporean artist Vincent Leow.The exhibition features over one hundred drawings on paper, reflecting the artist's perspective and feelings towards human experiences of loss, and the chaos and destruction caused by ongoing conflicts in the world today.

These intricate black-and-white drawings consist of overlapping human forms, structures, and numerous unidentifiable objects. They serve as the artist's daily journal during his residency at MATDOTArt Center. During this period, Vincent was exposed to news of wars and violence occurring worldwide, reported through online media. Although these distressing events may seem distant from us, they are real occurrences that repeat continually, causing turmoil and loss. What may be a good day for us could be a dreadful day for countless others. The artist aims for this body of work to raise awareness of the dangers relentlessly undermining humanity.

"EveryDayGood" is open for viewing free of charge from 4 Juneto 7 July2024, at BlacklistGallery, MATDOT Art Center, Lan Luang Road, Pom Prap Sattru Phai District, Bangkok. The opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 4June2024 at 18:00.

About Artist

Vincent Leow(b. 1961) is one of Singapore's leading contemporary artists. His practice parallels the development of contemporary art in Singapore. As a painter, he is regarded as a remarkable creative, expressing his work through various mediums and genres, including sculpture,painting, printmaking, drawing, video, and more. Moreover, he is an artist who has dipped into a fantastic range of influences from popular culture, literature, cinema, politics, and the mass media to create his works.

After graduating from LASALLE College of the Arts in 1987, he obtained an MA in Fine Art in 1991in the USA and completed his Doctorate from RMIT, Melbourne, Australia in Fine Art in 2005. He is one of the early members of The Artists Village, founded in 1988by Tang Da Wu, and subsequently helmed other artist-run spaces. Vincent also co-founded the now-defunct Utopia and is the founder of Plastique Kinetic Worms, a leading alternative artist-run space in Singapore.

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry awarded him the Culture Award in 2002for his contribution to the arts. He represented Singapore at the 52ndVenice Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2007, the 9thIndian Triennial of Contemporary Art in New Dehli, India, in 1997, and the 1stAsia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in Brisbane, Australia, in 1993.

Apart from the artist role, Vincent Leow has spent his time educating the younger generation in visual arts. He previously taught at LASALLE College of Arts, Singapore, from 2003 to 2007. From 2008 to 2013, he was a lecturer at the University of Sharjah, College of the Arts in the United Arab Emirates. Currently, he teaches at the School of the Arts (SOTA) in Singapore.

About MATDOT

MATDOT Art Centeris a unique art space situated in the heart of Bangkok Old Town founded in 2020by Tawatchai Somkong, Editor-in-Chief of Fine Art Magazine. It is intended to garner a connection with the art community from artists to curators, collectors, students, and aficionados alike.
