นิทรรศการศิลปนิพนธ์ "SUS" ผลงานโดยนักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 4 สาขาสื่อศิลปะและการออกแบบสื่อ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 2 - 8 มีนาคม 2567 ณ หอนิทรรศการศิลปวัฒนธรรม มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ : CMU Art Center

ในชีวิตชีวิตประจำวันของคนหมู่มาก ต่างมักจะวางแผนเหตุการณ์ในชีวิตทุกขั้นตอนอย่างพิถีพิถัน โดยคาดหวังการเดินทางที่ราบรื่นไปสู่ความสำเร็จและความสมหวัง เช่น เมื่อคุณทำงานอย่างหนักเป็นอยู่งานล่วงเวลาเป็นประจำ ก็ต่างคาดหวังว่าจะได้โบนัสประจำปีก้อนใหญ่หรือได้รับการเลื่อนตำแหน่งเป็นแน่ แต่บางครั้งชีวิตกลับเล่นตลกราวกับว่าอยากจะแกล้งกันเสียอย่างนั้น ก่อนพายุจะเข้าเรามักจะได้กลิ่นฝนเสียก่อน ความรู้สึกตะขิดตะขวงใจนี้อีกชื่อหนึ่งเราเรียกได้ว่า “SUS”(suspicious) ซึ่งเป็นแสลงมาจากวิดีโอเกมส์ที่แปลว่าความรู้สึกไม่สบายใจก่อนที่จะเกิดเรื่องผิดคาดขึ้น หรือแปลตรงตัวได้ว่าน่าสงสัย

หลังจากความสงสัย เมื่อมีสิ่งผิดพลาดไปเราก็มักจะสถบออกมา “สัส” ก็เป็นอีกวิธีหนึ่งที่เราจะออกเสียงตัวอักษร s-u-s ได้ซึ่งเป็นการสร้างความเชื่อมต่อระหว่างความรู้สึกไม่สงบใจสู่การยอมรับความเป็นจริงอย่างไม่เต็มใจนัก ซึ่งในชีวิตของเราต่างก็เคยประสบพบเจอเวลาเช่นนี้อย่างแน่นอน

MEDIA ART AND DESIGN DEGREE SHOWS “SUS” ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากคอนเซ็ปดังกล่าวนี้ เพื่อสร้างพื้นที่ทางศิลปะให้กับนักศึกษา สาขาวิชาสื่อศิลปะและการออกแบบสื่อ ซึ่งมีจุดมุ่งหมายในการเสริมสร้างความคิด จินตนาการและข้อถกเถียง เพื่อการเรียนรู้เชิงทฤษฎี ความคิดและการวิพากษ์จารณ์ และนำมาแก้ไขปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นในสังคม ปรับใช้ให้เข้ากับบริบทของสังคมที่ต่างกันไป โดยนิทรรศการในปีนี้อยู่ในภายใต้คอนเสป “SUS” ได้นำประเด็นเกี่ยวกับความรู้สึกก่อนเกิดเรื่องร้ายมาสร้างเป็นรูปธรรม ในขณะเดียวกันก็บอกกับผู้ชมว่าให้สถบแล้วช่างมันบ้างก็ได้เสียประไร

What will happen if anything can happen?

In the daily lives of many people, it’s common to meticulously plan every step, expecting smooth journeys towards success and hope. For instance, when working diligently and consistently overtime, one might anticipate a significant year-end bonus or a certain promotion. However, sometimes life throws unexpected curveballs, like wanting to prank each other just for fun. Just before a storm hits, we often smell rain in the air. This uneasy feeling is what we call “SUS” (suspicious), borrowed from video game culture, meaning a sense of discomfort before something unforeseen happens, or simply put, being suspicious.

After suspicion, when things go wrong, we often exclaim “Sus!” This is another way of vocalizing the letters s-u-s, creating a connection between the uneasy feeling and reluctantly accepting the truth. In our lives, we have all undoubtedly encountered such moments, where we express this sentiment of skepticism and reluctant acceptance.

The “SUS” Media Art and Design Degree Show draws inspiration from the aforementioned concept to create a space for students in the fields of media arts and design. The aim is to foster critical thinking, imagination, and debate for theoretical learning, ideation, and critique. It aims to address societal issues and adapt to different social contexts. This year’s exhibition, under the theme of “SUS,” explores the notion of premonition before adversity through art. Simultaneously, it challenges viewers to accept skepticism and potential loss, suggesting that being suspicious may not always result in negative outcomes.
