ตำนานเมืองที่มีภาพจำเป็นปกรณัมเหนือธรรมชาติ เปรียบเสมือนฉากหน้าบดบังโศกนาฏกรรมที่เกิดขึ้นจริง ตั้งแต่เรื่องราวขนาดมหภาค อย่างการเรียกร้องความชอบธรรมในการมีตัวตนผ่านการฟื้นฟูศาสนา

การถูกขับไล่ออกจากถิ่นอาศัยเพื่อสร้างเขื่อนผลิตไฟฟ้า แตกย่อยจนถึงระดับจุลภาค ผ่านรายละเอียดเล็กๆ น้อยๆ ในชีวิตที่เราคุ้นชิน อย่างเสื้อยืดที่ระลึกของนักท่องเที่ยว หรือแม้แต่คราบขาวสกปรกของมูลนกพิราบที่ตกลงสู่พื้นฟุตบาทกรุงเทพฯ

Folklore De Facto: Evolution จึงเลือกถ่ายทอดฉากทัศน์ของสังคมไทย โดยการนำเอาองค์ประกอบของตำนานเมือง เรื่องเล่า และความเชื่อ

ผนวกเข้ากับวิถีชีวิตพื้นบ้านมาเป็นตัวกลาง ทั้งในรูปแบบภาพยนตร์สั้น ภาพถ่าย งานศิลปะจัดวาง ไปจนถึงผลงานคอลลาจ

นิทรรศการนี้จะนำพาผู้ชมไปสัมผัสกับหน่วยชีวิตในประเทศไทยด้วยวิธีการร่วมสมัย เพื่อค้นหาเรื่องราวที่ซ่อนอยู่ในเรื่องเล่ากล่าวขาน และเชื่อมสัมพันธ์กับพื้นที่ที่ถูกเรียกว่า “บ้าน” อีกครั้ง

While Thai folk tales habitually transform real-life tragedies into mythical or surreal narratives, 'Folklore De Facto: Evolution' seeks to capture the macro-level despairs that underlie them; assert the righteousness of existence through religious revival, explore the forced expropriation for building a hydroelectric dam. Broken down into the minute components, showcased through souvenir t-shirts for tourists or even the dirty white stains of pigeon droppings on the Bangkok footpaths.

Folklore De Facto: Evolution invites the audience to experience the vibrant scenery of Thai society by combining urban legends, local beliefs, and ways of life as intermediaries. Expressing through the lens of short films, photographs, mixed media installations, and collage work.

Beyond its attempt to decrypt these myths, this exhibition serves, at the very least, as a reminder of our collective identity, origins, and the essence of what we are made of.
