นิทรรศการ "FAMILY"

นิทรรศการ "FAMILY" คือการจัดแสดงภาพถ่ายกลุ่ม ซึ่งได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากช่างภาพ 5 คน ซึ่ง สร้างสรรค์ผลงานภายใต้หัวข้อ "ครอบครัว" ซึ่งได้แก่ Julia Fullerton-Batten, Lek Kiatsirikajorn, Maika Elan, Sean Lee และ Ying Ang จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 5 - 31 ตุลาคม 2556 และมีพิธีเปิดในวันที่ 5 ตุลาคม 2556 ตั้งแต่เวลา 18.00 น. ณ RMA institute : อาเอมเอ อินสติติว

สิ่งหนึ่งที่เราทุกคนมีเหมือนกัน ก็คือการเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของครอบครัว เราไม่ได้เกิดเพียงลำพัง ครอบครัวเป็นอัตลักษณ์ทางสังคมขั้นพื้นฐาน ซึ่งการดำรงชีวิตในสังคม จำเป็นจะต้องมีพี่น้องให้การสนับสนุน, มีผู้นำ การเกิดใหม่และการลาจากที่หนีไม่พ้น, การต่อสู้ระหว่างคนต่างยุค, เสียงตะโกนและความเงียบงัน, ความโศกเศร้า ความยินดี และ ความรัก 

•  เล็ก เกียรติศิริขจร (Lek Kiatsirikajorn) ช่างภาพชาวไทย นำเสนอผลงานใหม่ ของเขาที่มีชื่อว่า “A Family Odyssey” (ครอบครัวเดินทาง) เป็นครั้งแรก ซึ่งก่อนหน้าที่เขาจะนำเสนอ ผลงานที่เน้นให้เห็นถึงความเปลี่ยน แปลงของ กรุงเทพ- มหานคร อย่าง “Lost in Paradise” และ “Flowing Through the Wreckage of Despair” เล็กเคยบันทึกภาพ พ่อแม่ของเขา ในผลงานชื่อ “As Time Goes By” มาแล้ว ราวกับว่าการถ่ายภาพ เป็น “กระบวนการบำบัดทางจิตใจผ่านการถ่ายภาพ” ส่วนตัว ผลงานชิ้นใหม่ของเขาเชื่อมโยงกับเราหลายต่อหลายคน ในแง่ของความรู้สึก ถึงการใช้ชีวิตที่สันโดษ เงียบสงบกับญาติมิตร ที่บางครั้งแม้อยู่ใกล้แต่ก็เหมือนกับห่างไกล

•  จูเลีย ฟุลเลอร์ตัน แบทเทน (Julia Fullerton-Batten) นำผลงานภาพชุดที่ได้รับ รางวัลอย่าง “Mothers and Daughters” ที่เคยจัดแสดงมาแล้วทั่วโลก มาจัดแสดงที่ประเทศไทยเป็นครั้งแรก ภาพชุดนี้ “แสดงให้เห็นถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างแม่และลูกสาว ที่ซับซ้อนและบางครั้งก็เป็นความสัมพันธ์ที่ท้าทาย” เริ่มต้นจากความต้องการให้งานชิ้นนี้เป็นเหมือนภาพแสดงอัตชีวประวัติ จูเลียตัดสินใจใช้วิธีการจัดฉาก คล้ายการถ่ายภาพแฟชั่นและงานละครเวที แต่ผู้แสดงแบบที่จูเลียร่วมงานด้วยนั้น เป็นแม่ลูกกันจริงๆ

•  ญิง อัง (Ying Ang) มาจากครอบครัวที่ทรงอิทธิพลและร่ำรวยในสิงคโปร์ เธอพูดถึงธุรกิจของครอบครัวว่า “เป็นเหมือนเครือธุรกิจ” ปู่และพ่อของเธอเป็นผู้ให้ความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีแก่สมาชิกหลายรุ่นของครอบครัวเธอ ในผลงาน “And The Third Loses It All” นำเสนอหัวข้อที่น่าสนใจสองหัวข้อ นั่นคือ พ่อ ผู้ตัดสินใจที่จะทำงาน ในที่ทำงานเล็กๆ และยุ่งเหยิง ซึ่งเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นและที่มาของความร่ำรวย และลูกสาวผู้เป็นช่างภาพ ที่ต้องการจดบันทึกความรุ่งโรจน์ และความเสื่อมถอยของความมั่งคั่งและผู้คน ซึ่งชื่อ ของผลงาน ก็สื่อให้เห็นถึงความหมายทั้งหมดแล้ว

•  ฌอน ลี (Sean Lee) เป็นช่างภาพพอร์เทรตและภาพศิลป์ในสิงคโปร์ ผลงาน “Homework” ของเขา เป็นการผสมผสานที่เยี่ยมยอดระหว่างธรรมชาติของความเป็นศิลปินทั้งสองรูปแบบ ฌอน บอกว่า การถ่ายภาพสมาชิกครอบครัว “เป็นความยินดีแบบเงียบๆ” สาเหตุก็เป็นเพราะว่า ครอบครัวของเขาไม่ได้เป็นนักแสดงมืออาชีพ (พ่อของเขาเป็นคนขับแท็กซี่ และแม่เป็นพนักงานเสิร์ฟพาร์ทไทม์) แต่ผลลัพธ์ที่ได้ กลับเป็นความสนุก, เร้าอารมณ์ และ “เป็นความใกล้ชิดทางกาย” ฌอน ลี ยังได้รับการ จับตาในฐานะช่างภาพหนุ่มที่เชี่ยวชาญการถ่ายภาพพอร์เทรตขาวดำในสิงคโปร์ด้วย

•  ผลงานเดียวที่ไม่สามารถเป็นครอบครัว เพราะว่าครอบครัวนี้ถือว่าอยู่นอกกฎหมาย นั่นคือผลงาน “The Pink Choice” ของ ไมก้า อีลาน (Maika Elan) ช่างภาพชาวเวียดนาม ภาพถ่ายชุดนี้ได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศในงาน World Press Photo ปี 2556 ซึ่งถือเป็นรางวัลสำคัญของภาพถ่ายสื่อมวลชน ประเภท “ประเด็นร่วมสมัย” ภาพถ่ายชุดนี้เป็นผลงานที่อุทิศและทุ่มเทแก่คู่รักเพศเดี ยวกันในเวียดนาม เสียงสะท้อนของนิตยสาร The New York Times ที่มีต่อผลงานชิ้นนี้ คือ “โฉมหน้าที่แท้จริง, คนที่มีตัวตนจริง, ความรักที่แท้จริง”

Among the things that people may have in common is being part of a family. We were not born alone. Family is the basic community identity and, as in the social life, it needs brotherly support, leaders, new arrivals and definitive leavings, battles between generations, silence and shouts, melancholy and joy and love.

FAMILY is a group exhibition inspired by five photographers who have worked on the subject of the family.

•  Thai photographer Lek Kiatsirikajorn presents, for the first time ever, his new work “A Family Odyssey”. Before focusing on the changing of Bangkok with “Lost in Paradise” and “Flowing Through the Wreckage of Despair”, Lek had already pointed the camera to his parents in “As Time Goes By”. If it was a personal “psychological therapy through the photography process” and the new work regards many of us and that sense of silent but peaceful solitude living with our relatives, sometimes so close and so far.

•  Julia Fullerton-Batten has exhibited the awarded series “Mothers and Daughters” worldwide and now for the first time in Thailand. The series “portrays the complex and sometimes challenging relationship between a mother and her daughter”. Starting from a biographical need, Julia apparently set-up like a fashion and staged shooting, but she worked with real mothers and daughters.

•  In Singapore Ying Ang comes from a powerful and wealthy family, an “empire of sorts” as she defines the family business. Before her grandfather and then her father had provided to a livelihood for generations in Ying’s family. The series “And The Third Loses It All” has two interesting topics: the father who decides to work where all the fortune began, in a small and messy office, and the daughter photographers who wants to document the rise and decline of fortunes and men. Already the title is its statement.

•  Sean Lee is a portraiture and fine-art photographer based in Singapore. “Homework” is the best mix of his double nature of being an artist. Sean said that “there is a kind of quiet delight” in photographing the members of his family. Why? Because the family are not professional actors (the father is a taxi driver and his mother is a part time waitress) but the result is funny, dramatic and “physically intimate”. Sean Lee is also considering one of the young master black and white portrait photographer in Singapore.

•  The only work that has not any family, because these families are illegal, is “The Pink Choice” by Vietnamese photographer Maika Elan. The series has been awarded with the first prize at 2013 World Press Photo (the most important prize in photojournalism) for the category “Contemporary Issues” and it’s a delicate and strong work on the gay couples in Vietnam. Talking about the series, The New York Times titled it “Real Faces, Real People, Real Love”.
