นิทรรศการ "Keep in the dark" ผลงานโดย ตะวัน วัตุยา (Tawan Wattuya) จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 15 ตุลาคม - 27 พฤศจิกายน 2564 และจะมีพิธีเปิดในวันพฤหัสบดีที่ 14 ตุลาคม 2564 ณ หอศิลป์มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร วังท่าพระ

วันจันทร์ถึงเสาร์ 9.00 - 18.00 น. (ปิดวันอาทิตย์และวันหยุดราชการ)
(ในวันเปิดนิทรรศการ วันพฤหัสบดีที่ 14 ตุลาคม ขอสงวนสิทธิ์ในการเข้าชม)
* เนื่องจากในสถานการณ์การแพร่ระบาดของ COVID-19 หอศิลป์จึงจำกัดจำนวนผู้เข้าชม

การต่อสู้เพื่อให้ได้มาซึ่งความหมายที่แท้จริงในคำว่าประชาธิปไตยนั้นผ่านบาดแผลและชีวิตมานับไม่ถ้วน ความสลับซับซ้อนของปัญหายังไม่เคยได้ถูกคลี่คลาย หากแต่ในเศษซากนั้นๆยังมีความจริงซ่อนอยู่ หรืออย่างน้อยอาจเป็นเพียงข้อเท็จจริงที่รอให้คนรุ่นหลังมาร่วมค้นหาคำตอบต่อไป

รอยเคลื่อนที่เกิดขึ้นในสังคมสภาวะนี้ มิได้มีหน้าตาเสมือนการเคลื่อนไหวทางการเมืองในครั้งที่ผ่านๆมา กระบวนการเพื่อให้ไปสู่ยังจุดหมุดหมายปลายทางนั้นต้องผ่านชั้นต่างๆทางสังคมที่เป็นอุปสรรคไม่ว่าจะเป็นจารีตประเพณี วัฒนธรรมกฎหมายหรือแม้กระทั่งกฎหมู่ แต่ในขณะเดียวกันกระบวนการเพื่อให้พูดในสิ่งที่พูดไม่ได้นั้นได้เอ่อล้นดันเพดานของการสื่อสาร การตั้งคำถามต่างๆนานาปรากฏออกมาอย่างไม่น่าเชื่อ และเกิดขึ้นในสังคมไทยในทศวรรษนี้

Keep in the dark คือนิทรรศการภาพวาดจิตรกรรมสีน้ำของ ตะวัน วัตุยา ศิลปินผู้ใช้เทคนิคสีน้ำอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ในการถ่ายทอดภาพบุคคลที่แสดงออกได้ถึงอารมณ์ ความรู้สึก และลักษณะเฉพาะตัวของบุคคลได้อย่างน่าสนใจ ในนิทรรศการนี้ตะวันได้เข้าไปจับจ้องปรากฏการณ์ต่างๆทางสังคมที่กำลังบิดเบี้ยว/ผิดเพี้ยน บันทึกสถานการณ์แบบฉับพลัน และสะท้อนออกมาเป็นผลงานจิตรกรรมสีน้ำที่มีความหยอกล้อกับความเป็นไปทางสังคม เป็นดั่งการรวบรวมการเดินทางของตะวันที่ได้พบเจอกับผู้คนและเรื่องราวของความเห็นต่างทางการเมือง โดยภาพใบหน้าบุคคลเหล่านั้น ตลอดจนบทบันทึกปรากฏการณ์และสถานการณ์สำคัญที่เกิดขึ้นในพื้นที่ประวัติศาสตร์ไทย ได้กลายมาเป็นผลงานที่สะท้อนเรื่องราวต่างๆมากมายที่รอให้ผู้ชมมาสืบเสาะค้นหา

เกี่ยวกับศิลปิน
ตะวัน วัตุยา (เกิดพ.ศ. 2516 กรุงเทพฯ) จบการศึกษาในระดับปริญญาตรีจากคณะจิตรกรรม ประติมากรรม และภาพพิมพ์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร มีประสบการณในระดับนานาชาติมากมาย โดยผลงานของตะวันไดจัดแสดงทั้งในรูปแบบนิทรรศการเดี่ยวและกลุ่มอยางสมํ่าเสมอ ไมว่าจะเป็น QUEEN (Tokyo, 2019), HATCH ART PROJECT (Singapore, 2019&2021) และล่าสุดไดรับคัดเลือกให้เข้าร่วมในมหกรรมศิลปะนานาชาติ Bangkok Biennale (2020) ที่ผานมา

ตะวันมักนําเสนอเรื่องราวที่เกี่ยวข้องกับบริบททางสังคมผานผลงานจิตรกรรมภาพบุคคลดวยเทคนิคสีนํ้าแบบฉับพลันที่มีการใชฝีแปรงอันคมคาย รวมถึงการเข้าไปร่วมสร้างบทสนทนาระหว่างศิลปินกับต้นแบบในพื้นที่ร่วมกับการบันทึกจังหวะเพียงชั่วขณะ ที่สามารถถ่ายทอดฝีไม้ลายมืออันเป็นลักษณะเฉพาะตัวออกมาได้อย่างชัดเจน ทั้งยังเต็มไปดวยการสื่อสารอารมณ์ผานแววตา สีหน้า และท่าทาง มีความเรียบง่ายแต่แฝงไปดวยประเด็นที่ชวนให้คิดตาม ความสมบูรณ์แบบจึงไม่ใช่คําตอบในผลงานของตะวัน หากแต่เป็นปรากฏการณ์ระหว่างกระบวนการสร้างสรรค์ที่สามารถส่งสารไปยังผูชม

"Keep in the dark"

In the fight for real democracy, many people have been wounded and countless lives have been lost throughout the history of the struggle. The conflict has never been resolved but exacerbated just like an increasing pile. The pile that contains some truths awaiting the younger generation to investigate.

This social split does not look like previous political movements. The mechanism or process that will lead us to the destination has to go through many layers of social hurdles, whether it be custom, tradition, law or even mobrule. At the same time, the struggle for the right to speak the unspeakable breaks a glass ceiling of communication. Incredibly, many questions are being rigorously posed. This phenomenon is happening in Thailand in this century.

Keep in the Dark is an exhibition which showcases a collection of paintings by Tawan Wattuya whose distinctive watercolour interestingly depict people with sense of their emotions, feelings, and character. The paintings are products from the artist’s sharp observation of current social absurdities and idiocies. The paintings play with recent social happenings, uncovering feelings and emotions of those affected by political conflicts. This exhibition is a collection of the artist’s various encounters with people and stories of people who have different political opinions, inviting the visitor to explore and discover truths.

About the artist
Tawan Wattuya (b.1973, Bangkok) graduated from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University. His works have been exhibited extensively in the international art scene, both solo and group exhibitions, such as QUEEN (Tokyo, 2019), HATCH ART PROJECT (Singapore, 2019 & 2021), and the recent Bangkok Art Biennale (2020).

Tawan’spainting focuses on the social situation through his expressive brushstroke in watercolour portrait. His artistic approach always engages with the model through a conversation on a specific current issue. By doing so, the paintings distinctively reveal his unique practice, which is simple yet thought-provoking. Consequently, the artworks are full of sense of the model’s emotions, feelings, and characteristics. For Tawan, perfectness is not the goal in his works but rather the artistic approach that conveys a core message to the viewer.
