นิทรรศการเปิดให้ชมตั้งแต่ 19 มีนาคม – 15 พฤษภาคม 2564 วันจันทร์ถึงเสาร์ 9.00 - 18.00 น. (ปิดวันอาทิตย์และวันหยุดราชการ)

จากการปรับปรุงมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร วังท่าพระ ตั้งแต่ปีพ.ศ. 2558 กลุ่มอาคารอนุรักษ์อันประกอบด้วย ท้องพระโรง ตำหนักกลาง และตำหนักพรรณราย ซึ่งเป็นที่ตั้งของหอศิลป์มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากรอันมีประวัติศาสตร์มาอย่างยาวนานตั้งแต่สมัยต้นกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ได้รับการบูรณะให้กลับมาสมบูรณ์ด้วยความงดงามอีกครั้ง ซึ่งการบูรณะดังกล่าวนี้เป็นเสมือนการร่อนถอดเปลือกกาลเวลาของประวัติศาสตร์ออกทีละชั้น เพื่อเผยให้เห็นสิ่งที่ซ่อนแฝงอยู่อย่างมีนัยสำคัญ

การกลับมาใช้พื้นที่ของหอศิลป์มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากรอีกครั้งหลังการบูรณะใหญ่นี้จึงจงใจให้นิทรรศการแรกได้มีบทสนทนาร่วมกับพื้นที่โดยตรงผ่านความคิดอ่านทางศิลปะร่วมสมัย โดยหอศิลป์ได้เชื้อเชิญศิลปิน ปรัชญา พิณทอง เข้ามาร่วมปฏิสังสรรค์กับพื้นที่ในระหว่างกระบวนการปรับปรุงอาคารในระยะสุดท้าย ซึ่งผลงานที่เกิดขึ้นนั้นคือบทสนทนาอันแยบคายที่พาเรื่องราวไปสู่ ประวัติศาสตร์ไทยที่พาดเกี่ยวกับประวัติศาสตร์โลกและเรื่องราวอื่นๆที่รอผู้ชมมาค้นหา และตีความอย่างเสรี

เริ่มต้นจากกระบวนการขัดพื้นไม้สักของอาคารที่ทำให้เกิดม่านหมอกของฝุ่นฟุ้งลอยในอากาศ เป็นดั่งสะพานแรกที่พาเราไปสู่องคาพยพของนิทรรศการนี้ในช่วงเวลาของม่านหมอกแห่งประวัติศาสตร์ที่บดบังทัศนวิสัย ปรัชญา ได้กลายเป็นอนุภาคหนึ่งของกาลเวลาและตกลงไปในร่องของประวัติศาสตร์ที่ฝุ่นได้เข้าไปแทรกตัว และนั่นเองคือจุดเริ่มต้นของนิทรรศการ Extended-release

นิทรรศการ Extended-release คือการนำเสนอการขุดค้นเพื่อปลดปล่อยเรื่องราวทางประวัติศาสตร์ที่มีสถานการณ์และพื้นที่จำเพาะเพื่อหา “ร่อง” เรื่องราวทางประวัติศาสตร์ที่อยู่ในซอกหลืบทางความคิด ซึ่งอาจมิได้เผยตัวตนออกมา เป็นสถานการณ์ร่วมระหว่างศิลปิน พื้นที่ เวลา และรวมถึงช่างผู้เป็นแรงงานในการบูรณะอาคารดังกล่าว ที่เข้าไปค้นหาร่องรอยของประวัติศาสตร์ที่ได้ทิ้งรอยประทับไว้ในวิธีคิดของผู้คน เสมือนกระบวนการขุดค้นที่พาเราดำดิ่งไปสู่เรื่องราวต่างๆ หากแต่เรื่องราวที่ได้เจอนั้นคือห้วงของประวัติศาสตร์ที่กระท่อนกระแท่น รอการประกอบและสร้างขึ้นมาใหม่ด้วยภาษาทางศิลปะ

เกี่ยวกับศิลปิน
ปรัชญา พิณทอง จบการศึกษาในระดับปริญญาตรีจากคณะจิตรกรรมประติมากรรมและภาพพิมพ์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร ก่อนไปศึกษาต่อด้านศิลปะยังสถาบัน Städelschule เมืองแฟรงก์เฟิร์ต ประเทศเยอรมนี ปรัชญาเป็นศิลปินพ านักในประเทศต่างๆ และมีผลงานแสดงในนิทรรศการศิลปะทั้งในประเทศและต่างประเทศอย่างต่อเนื่อง รวมถึงมหกรรมศิลปะนานาชาติต่างๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็น documenta ครั้งที่ 13 ประเทศเยอรมนี (2012) และ Biennale Lyon ครั้งที่ 14 ประเทศฝรั่งเศส (2017) และอื่นๆอีกมากมาย

กระบวนการทำงานของปรัชญาให้ความสนใจต่อการหาหรือสร้างสถานการณ์ที่จำเพาะเจาะจงไปยังเรื่องราวนั้นๆที่ส่งต่อไปยังวิธีคิดทางศิลปะของเขา โดยมีการเข้าไปสืบค้นเรื่องราวทางประวัติศาสตร์ หรือเรื่องราวบอกเล่าชายขอบที่ยังคงอยู่ในซอกหลืบของประวัติศาสตร์อยู่เสมอ ผลงานที่ผ่านมาของปรัชญาเเม้จะบางเบาในมิติทางกายภาพของวัตถุ หากเเต่ทรงพลังในเรื่องราวเเละกระบวนการที่ซ่อนอยู่ ปรัชญามีสายตาที่คมคายที่พยายามหารอยต่อหรือรอยแตกของเรื่องราวต่างๆ ที่พาดผ่านมากระทบสังคมทั้งในระดับมหภาคและระดับจุลภาค โดยสามารถสร้างชุดผลงานศิลปะที่นำเสนอวัตถุพยานต่างๆได้อย่างน่าสนใจเเละเปิดกว้างในเสรีภาพของการตีความเรื่องราวต่างๆที่มิได้บีบรัดทัศนคติของผู้ชม แต่กลับสร้างบทสนทนาระหว่างศิลปิน ผู้ชม และสังคม

From the renovation of Silpakorn University in 2015, the Art Centre Silpakorn University, regarded as heritage buildings of Wang Thapra, was recently exquisitely restored. Metaphorically, the restoration process was to remove the coverings of the time of history piece by piece to uncover some hidden significance.

To celebrate this reopening, the Art Centre invites Pratchaya Phinthong to engage in critical dialogues and interactions with the space during the final phase of its restoration. The result of this exhibition is a subtle conversation that intertwined with the global history and other narratives awaiting be discovered and liberally interpreted.

The scrubbing of the wooden floor creates clouds of dust floating in the air. These clouds function as a bridge to explore the physicality of this exhibition. In the time when the haze of history obscures vision, Pratchaya turns himself into one of the particles of time that falls into historical fissures where dust gathers. This is the origin of the exhibition, Extended-release.

The exhibition, Extended-release, is the process to liberate history that is specific both temporally and spatially. The process is to excavate traces of hidden and forgotten historical narratives that have no place in the mainstream history. The exhibition is a collaborative project between artist, space, time and workmen who restored the building, to discover historical vestiges indelibly imprinted in people’s ways of thinking. The exhibition is analogous to the excavation of history, which are torn apiece and wait to be reconstructed anew through the language of arts.

About the artist
Pratchaya Phinthong graduated from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University. After graduation, he continued his education in Städelschule, Frankfurt, Germany. Pratchaya is invited to artist-in-residence programmes by various institutes across multiple countries. His works have widely been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in the Documenta 13 (2012) in Germany and the 14th Biennale (2017) in France, among many others.

Pratchaya’s artistic process focuses on the construction and discovery of particular situations to examine particular issues which concern and interest him personally and which influence his own creative thinking method. His works always seek to
retrieve untold historical narratives of the marginalised. Despite the fact that his previous artworks may seem light in terms of their physicality, the messages and work processes are powerful. He has a keen sharp for gathering bits and pieces of
stories which impact society both at micro and macro levels. Pratchaya’s oeuvre bears witness to social phenomena. At the same time, it is open to liberal interpretation and does not intend to impose its own interpretation upon the audience, but
rather invites them to engage in conservations with the artist, the audience and the society.
