Girl with a Pearl Earring เป็นนิทรรศการศิลปะจัดวางในรูปแบบของการนำสิ่งที่มีอยู่แล้วมาใช้ในบริบทใหม่ (appropriation) ด้วยการนำ “ภาพ” ที่มีอยู่ในผลผลิตทางศิลปวัฒนธรรมและระบบการค้ามาปรับเปลี่ยนบริบทในกรอบคิดของการเล่นกับความเป็นไปได้ของสื่อศิลปะ เพื่อสร้างความเป็นไปได้และสื่อสารความหมายใหม่ ๆ ที่แตกต่างออกไป - ผ่านการอ้างอิงและเล่นกับความหมายเดิมด้วยการบวกเพิ่มเงื่อนไขและความหมายใหม่เข้าไป ผลงานศิลปะจัดวางทั้งสามชุดในนิทรรศการประกอบด้วยงานจิตรกรรม ประติมากรรม และวิดีโอ

หลายครั้งที่งานศิลปะซึ่งถูกสร้างขึ้นในอดีตถูกรับรู้คลาดเคลื่อนจากบริบทที่เคยเป็นในยุคสมัยของมัน เป็นเพราะวิธีคิด ทัศนคติ และรสนิยมของผู้คนเปลี่ยนแปลงไป โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง คนที่มีชีวิตในสังคม-วัฒนธรรมที่ต่างกันอย่างสิ้นเชิง

การชื่นชมเพียงความงามของศิลปะตามรสนิยมในสังคมและยุคสมัยของเราอาจจะพอเพียง แต่คำว่า “พอเพียง” นั้นไม่มีความหมาย และไม่เคยเป็นจริงในโลกของความรู้ เพราะความต้องการเข้าใจสิ่งต่าง ๆ ของมนุษย์ไม่เคยจำกัด แม้บางครั้ง ความเข้าใจนั้นอาจเป็นแค่การตีความหมายก็ตาม

ภาพจิตรกรรม ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ ของ Johannes Vermeer เป็นงานศิลปะชิ้นหนึ่งที่ประสบชะตากรรมเช่นนั้น เพราะความงามและเสน่ห์ของมันที่ทำให้เราหลงรัก และเมื่อเราหลงรักมัน บางครั้งความต้องการที่จะทำความเข้าใจและรู้จักมันอย่างมีเหตุมีผลด้วยก็จะเลือนจางลงไป เพราะความรักเป็นอารมณ์ที่เป็นสิ่งเพียงพอในตัวเอง, ที่ไม่เคยพอ

Girl with a Pearl Earring is an installation art exhibition demonstrating forms of appropriation, which uses pre-existing images or objects from art, history, culture, and a trading system to convert the context or possibility of art for communication and expression. It is referenced and mimicked from its original definition but includes a new condition and meaning. The three-series of installations in this exhibition consists of painting, sculpture and video.

Oftentimes, art that was created in the past is misleading from its own context within its period by altered tint of thought, attitude, and appreciation of the beholders, especially people from completely different socio-cultural environments.

The appreciation of beauty of art according to the tastes of our society and era we are living in may suffice. Even though the word “adequate ” is meaningless and inexistent in the world of knowledge because human endeavour to understand things is limitless, despite the comprehension is merely an interpretation.

‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ is Johannes Vermeer's most famous painting, has experienced the same thing. According to the beauty and charm, I am attracted until my endeavour to rationally understand it is faint for the sake of love, which is a self-sufficient emotion, but never enough.
