นิทรรศการภาพถ่ายและภาพยนต์สั้น “From A to BKK” ผลงานโดย เดล คอนสแตนซ์ (Dale Konstanz), ธำมรงค์ วนาฤทธิกุล (Thamarong Wanarithikul) และ สมพจน์ ชิตเกษรพงศ์ (Sompot Chidgasornpongse) จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 20 มีนาคม - 18 เมษายน 2563 และจะมีพิธีเปิดในศุกร์ที่ 20 มีนาคม เวลา 18:00 น. ณ Palette Artspace

การเดินทางจากจุด A ไปยังจุด B คือสิ่งที่ทุกคนทำเป็นประจำในทุกวัน จนดูเหมือนเป็นเรื่องธรรมดา แต่สิ่งที่น่าสนใจคือการตั้งคำถามว่า เดินทางไปเพื่ออะไร เดินทางอย่างไร การเดินทางในทุกๆครั้ง พวกเขามักนำสิ่งของ ภาษา ความเชื่อ วัฒนธรม และขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณีต่างๆติดตามตัวมาด้วยเสมอ ความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมจึงได้เกิดขึ้น
“From A 2 BKK” เป็นนิทรรศการศิลปะที่นำเสนอเรื่องราวการเดินทางในกรุงเทพฯ ของผู้คนที่มีภูมิหลังและเหตุผลในการเดินทางแตกต่างกัน การปรับตัวเพื่อสร้างตัวตนให้เข้ากับการใช้ชีวิตในกรุงเทพฯ โดยได้นำเสนอมุมมองที่แตกต่างผ่านผลงานศิลปะของศิลปินทั้งสามคน

เดล คอนสแตนซ์: เป็นชาวอเมริกันที่อาศัยอยู่ในกรุงเทพฯ มานานกว่า 17 ปี การเดินทางด้วยรถแท็กซี่ทำให้เขาได้มองเห็นวัฒนธรรม ความเชื่อและความหวนคิดถึงวันวานบ้านเกิด ผ่านการตกแต่งพื้นที่ภายในรถของคนขับแท็กซี่ ซึ่งมักเป็นคนต่างจังหวัดที่มาทำงานในกรุงเทพฯ โดยขับรถวันละหลายชั่วโมงในพื้นที่แคบและอึดอัด ภาพถ่ายของเดลที่เกิดขึ้นจากการบันทึกการเดินทางส่วนตัว ได้สะท้อนถึงความเชื่อที่คนขับรถยึดเหนี่ยว รวมไปถึงอารมณ์อันอ่อนไหวของกลุ่มคนที่เดินทางตลอดเวลา และพยายามดิ้นรนใช้ชีวิตให้สอดคล้องกับความเป็นไปของเมืองหลวงอันวุ่นวายในเวลาเดียวกัน

ธำมรงค์ วนาฤทธิกุล: อธิบายตัวเองว่า “กายเป็นพนักงานออฟฟิศ แต่ใจเป็นช่างภาพ” การเดินทางไปทำงานด้วยเส้นทางเดิมทุกวัน ทำให้เขาได้สังเกตและบันทึกภาพกลุ่มคนแรงงานในรถกระบะตามถนนจากมุมมองบนสะพานลอย งานของเขานำเสนอกิจกรรม อิริยาบถต่างๆ ของกลุ่มคนที่ต้องอยู่รวมกันในที่แคบและร้อน กับข้าวของเครื่องใช้ส่วนตัวและอุปกรณ์ที่ใช้ในการทำงาน รายละเอียดของภาพถ่ายเหล่านี้สะท้อนถึงภูมิหลังและความใฝ่ฝันที่จะได้ลืมตาอ้าปากของกลุ่มแรงงานผู้เดินทางมายังเมืองใหญ่เพื่อแสวงหาอาชีพผ่านการเดินทางไปยังเขตก่อสร้างต่างๆ อีกทีหนึ่ง

สมพจน์ ชิตเกษรพงศ์: ผู้กำกับหนังที่น่าสนใจเรื่องราวในชีวิตประจำวันของคนทั่วไปและพยายามถ่ายทอดมันออกมาอย่างไม่จำเจ เช่นใน “Bangkok in the Evening” ภาพยนต์เรื่องสั้นความยาว 16 นาที ที่นำเสนอความวุ่นวายของการเดินทางที่รวดเร็ว และการเคลื่อนไหวไม่หยุดนิ่งของกรุงเทพฯ ออกมาอย่างละเอียดอ่อน เมื่อปรากฏการณ์บางอย่างที่เกิดขึ้นในกรุงเทพฯหยุดลงชั่วขณะ มหานครที่เต็มไปด้วยความขัดแย้งแตกต่าง ได้หยุดพักจากความชุลมุนและเกิดความเป็นน้ำหนึ่งอันเดียวกัน แม้จะเป็นช่วงเวลาสั้นๆ

Getting from A to B is what everyone does ordinarily. But the extraordinaries are reasons behind it, how the traveling is carried out and who is the one traveling. People often brings something from their previous destination along with them when they travel; belongings, languages, beliefs, customs and cultures. Hence, a place with variety of differences many times present a colorful and interesting cultural diverities.
From A 2 BKK is an art exhibition celebrating the details of ordinary lives traveling in the city of Bangkok. The different ways and reasons people travels in Bangkok, as well as the peculiar process of compromising and adjusting themselves into the city’s pace; are the concepts the exhibition hilights through the works of three Bangkok-based artists.

An American visual artist, Dale Konstanz, has been based in Bangkok since 2003. As he takes taxi to travel through Bangkok everyday, Dale gradually notices the beliefs, cultures and nostalgics from the interior decoration of the car. He sees the sentimental side of the taxi drivers, who often migrated to Bangkok, trying to make a living by driving many hours a day in a small and cramped space. Dale’s photographs that record his own journey also reflect the value held by these drivers, who constantly travel and struggle to thrive in the busy city, simutanously.

“Office worker by day, Photographer by heart” is how Thamarong describes himself. As he travels to work on the same route at the same time everyday, he was able to capture the pictures of workers inside the pick-up truck, from his view over a pedestrian bridge. His photos feature activities, guestures and emotions of workers, crowded in the back of the truck with their belongings. These details represent their sensitive background, way of lives and dreams of opportunity as they travel to construction sites in the city of Bangkok.

Sompot’s film often presents story of everyday life in a thought-provoking ways. His 16-minute short film “Bangkok in the Evening” reflects the chaotic nature of the ever-changing never-stop-moving Bangkok in the most delicate way. As the certain phenomenon occurs in the certain time of every evening, all the movement in Bangkok has suspended temporarily. Though it was only a short period of time, the city of conflict and differences seems at ease and relaxed in a harmonious atmostphere.
