About 'Belle Douleur'
Humans have created works from happiness. That happiness is stored as a memory. It is dressed up and filtered and conveyed into works of art. However, humans can also create works from suffering. Melanie Greis, or the artist who created the work from suffering from the symptoms of a lumbar disc herniation. It affected her mental state. She became a depressed patient. Death took over her mind.

The artist had to face depression. When suffering hits her mind, it results in her finding a way out of suffering by means of suicide. The artist therefore created her own images of her death many times and repeatedly in her own images in order to feel liberation. The artist believed that letting go of suffering does not just mean finding happiness in the real world, but it may include creating another person in the fantasy world, a world with only artists and nature. There is only her alone peacefully. It is like when people dream and float in the air. It has no scientific rules and no pain. These are the pleasures of a parallel world created by artists within their concepts.

The 'Belle douleur' exhibition, in French, means beautiful pain. The artist wanted to convey her imagination from the encounters, fights, and transcends depression that she has experienced for many years. The painful memories are beautiful if you learn to live with them. It can become a driving force for you to rise up and live better until the day they leave the artist. All the suffering and inner feelings of the artist are expressed through line drawing on paper and creation through graphic arts. It was painted as a work of art displayed in this exhibition.

มนุษย์เราสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจากความสุข ความสุขนั้นถูกเก็บเป็นความทรงจำ ปรุงแต่ง กลั่นกรอง เเล้วถ่ายทอดออกมาเป็นผลงานศิลปะ แต่มนุษย์เองก็ยังสร้างสรรค์ผลงานจากความทุกข์ได้เช่นกัน ศิลปิน เมลาณี ไกรส์ สร้างสรรค์ผลงานที่มาจากความทุกข์ทรมาณของอาการของโรคหมอนรองกระดูกทับเส้นประสาท จนส่งผลกระทบต่อสภาพจิตใจทำให้กลายเป็นโรคซึมเศร้า ความตายเข้าครอบงำจิตใจ

ศิลปินนั้นต้องเผชิญหน้ากับโรคซึมเศร้า เมื่อมีความทุกข์มากระทบกระเทือนจิตใจนั้นส่งผลให้คิดหาทางออกของความทุกข์ โดยใช้วิธีการอัตวินิบาตกรรม ศิลปินจึงสร้างมโนภาพของตัวเองที่ต้องตายลงนับครั้งไม่ถ้วนและในมโนภาพของตนเองอย่างซ้ำไปซ้ำมาเพื่อรู้สึกถึงการหลุดพ้น ศิลปินเชื่อว่าการปล่อยวางความทุกข์นั้นอาจไม่ได้หมายถึงการค้นหาความสุขในโลกแห่งความเป็นจริงเพียงอย่างเดียว แต่อาจรวมไปถึงการสร้างตัวตนอีกคนในโลกจินตนาการ โลกที่มีเพียงศิลปินกับธรรมชาติ มีเพียงตัวคนเดียวอย่างสงบ เสมือนดั่งเวลาคนเราฝัน ล่องลอยในอากาศ ไร้ซึ่งกฎเกณฑ์ทางวิทยาศาสตร์ ไร้ซึ่งความเจ็บปวด สิ่งเหล่านี้คือความสุขของโลกคู่ขนานที่ศิลปินสร้างขึ้นมาภายในมโนทัศน์

นิทรรศการ ‘Belle douleur’ เป็นภาษาฝรั่งเศส มีความหมายว่า ความเจ็บปวดที่งดงาม ศิลปินต้องการถ่ายทอดจินตนาการจากการเผชิญหน้า การต่อสู้ ก้าวข้ามผ่านโรคซึมเศร้าที่เป็นมานานหลายปี ความทรงจำที่เจ็บปวดนั้นสวยงามหากเรียนรู้ในการอยู่ร่วมกับมัน ให้กลายเป็นแรงผลักดันทำให้สามารถลุกขึ้นมามีชีวิตที่ดีขึ้นจวบจนวันที่สิ่งเหล่านี้หลุดออกไปจากศิลปินได้ ความทุกข์และความรู้สึกภายในของศิลปินทั้งหมดนั้นถูกแสดงออกผ่านการวาดเส้นลงบนกระดาษ และการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานผ่านศิลปะภาพพิมพ์ ระบายออกมาเป็นผลงานศิลปะที่จัดแสดงในนิทรรศการครั้งนี้
