นิทรรศการ “สเปกตรัมของชีวิต : Living Spectrum” ผลงานโดย วงกต วัฒนโสภณวงศ์ (Wongkot Watanasoponwong) และ นพดล​ ไมตรีจิตร (Noppodal Maitreechit) จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 16 กุมภาพันธ์ - 2 มีนาคม 2562 ณ ILFORD Galerie Bangkok

นิทรรศการ “ สเปกตรัมของชีวิต ” เป็นผลงานร่วมกันของ วงกต วัฒนโสภณวงศ์ “ไบรซ์ หรือ กก” และ นพดล​ ไมตรีจิตร ช่างภาพสองคนที่ได้รับรางวัลจากเวทีการประกวดมามากมาย ที่พำนักอยู่ในประเทศไทย ทั้งสองพยายามถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวที่ได้มองเห็นอยู่เป็นประจำของชีวิตประจำวันในที่สาธารณะ โดยเป็นการมองเห็นสิ่งรอบตัวที่คนส่วนใหญ่มักมองผ่านไปแบบไม่สังเกต การถ่ายทอดผลงานภาพถ่ายของทั้งสองมีเรื่องราวและมุมมองที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งกับการใช้สี ซึ่งเป็นหลักในการอุปมาเรื่องอารมณ์และสภาพความเป็นอยู่ของมนุษย์

เกี่ยวกับศิลปิน
วงกต “ไบรซ์” วัฒนโสภณวงศ์ (หรือเพื่อนไทยหลายคนรู้จักกันว่า “กก”) คือช่างภาพอิสระ โดยเขาถือสัญชาติ ไทยและออสเตรเลีย เขาเกิดที่กรุงเทพฯ และใช้ช่วงเวลาครึ่งหนึ่งของวัยผู้ใหญ่และทำงาน ที่นครซิดนีย์ ประเทศออสเตรเลีย ปัจจุบันเขาพำนักอยู่ในประเทศไทย แต่ก็ยังคงมีการเดินทางระหว่างสองประเทศ

ความหลงใหลในการถ่ายภาพของเขานั้น เริ่มต้นจากการถ่ายภาพประเภทงานแต่งงาน และประเภทบันทึกสารคดี จนกระทั่งเขาได้ค้นพบกับงานถ่ายภาพประเภทสตรีท (Street) และแอบสแตรคท์ (Abstract) ซึ่งเป็นประเภทที่เขาต้องการมุ่งเน้น โดยกกกล่าวว่า
"เมื่อผมออกไปข้างนอกพร้อมกล้องนั้น ผมรู้สึกดีกับการที่ได้พบปะผู้คนใหม่ๆ ที่มีวัฒนธรรมแตกต่างกัน ผมสนุกกับการได้พบเห็นชีวิตแบบดิบ ๆ พบกับความงาม ความลึกลับ และยังทรงถึงความขบขันในตัวของมันเอง โดยผมจะเปิดใจกว้างยอมรับทุกสิ่งที่เห็นและพยายามให้ดีที่สุดที่จะบันทึกทุกเสี้ยววินาทีของทุกฉากที่ได้เห็น โดยเวลาที่ผมเดินไปตามท้องถนนนั้น ผมจะพยายามมองหาองค์ประกอบลึกลับที่เป็นนามธรรม โดยผมจะมองหาองค์ประกอบที่น่าสนใจเหล่านี้ โดยเฉพาะ สี แสงธรรมชาติ พื้นผิว และ รูปทรง ต่างๆ เป็นต้น
โดยขบวนการนี้เหมือนกับการค้นพบตัวตนและสิ่งลึกลับที่เป็นนามธรรม (Abstracts) คือสิ่งที่ผมต้องการโฟกัสงานต่อไป

นพดล ไมตรีจิตร์ เกิดและเติบโตในจังหวัดชุมพร ดินแดนที่ติดริมทะเลทางตอนใต้ของประเทศไทย ชีวิตในวัยเด็กของเขาไม่ต่างจากวิถีชีวิตของเด็กชนบททั่วๆไป จนกระทั่งเขาได้มีโอกาสศึกษาคณะนิเทศศาตร์ สาขาภาพยนตร์ จากมหาวิทยาลัยรังสิต ที่ที่ทำให้นพดลเริ่มรักและสนใจในศาสตร์การกำกับภาพยนตร์อย่างจริงจัง

เมื่อจบการศึกษา นพดล ทำงานในอุสาหกรรมภาพยนตร์ที่เขารักอยู่ช่วงเวลาหนึ่ง แต่เมื่ออุตสาหกรรมหนังเริ่มซบเซา เขาจำต้องออกเดินทางไปทำงานในร้านอาหารไทยที่เมือง Wellington ประเทศ New Zealand โดยเวลาว่างจากการทำงานเป็นผู้ช่วยในร้านอาหาร ความสุขเล็กๆ ของนพดลคือการเดินดูเมือง และวิถีชีวิตของผู้คนที่หลากหลาย พร้อมกับกล้องฟิล์มตัวเก่าในมือ และช่วงเวลานั้นนั่นเองที่นพดลเริ่มเก็บภาพที่เขา “รู้สึก“

4 ปี ต่อมา นพดล ตัดสินใจกลับบ้านเกิด และเริ่มชีวิตกับร้านอาหารเล็กๆ ของเขาและแฟน ที่บ้านเกิด จังหวัดชุมพร ณ เวลานั้น นพดล เริ่มกลับมาถ่ายภาพอีกครั้งโดยใช้กล้องจากโทรศัพท์มือถือ เขาได้รู้จักภาพแนวสตรีทจาก ทวีพงษ์ ประทุมวงษ์ รุ่นน้องของเขาสมัยเรียนมหาวิทยาลัย และเริ่มศึกษาจากกลุ่ม Street Photo Thailand

เมื่อถ่ายภาพไปได้สักระยะ นพดล ได้รับโอกาสเข้าร่วมกับ กลุ่ม Looper Collective และได้ร่วมเวิร์คชอป กับช่างภาพสตรีทระดับโลกหลายท่าน คือ Maciej Dakowic , David solomons, Matt stuart และ Jesse marlow
ปัจจุบัน นพดล ใช้การถ่ายภาพสตรีทของเขา ชดเชยความรู้สึกในการอยากทำภาพยนตร์ โดยการออกไปถ่ายภาพในแต่ละครั้งนั้นไม่ต่างจากการออกไปถ่ายภาพยนตร์ เพียงแต่ว่าเขาไม่รู้ว่าวันนี้เขาจะได้เจอหนังเรื่องอะไร การถ่ายภาพสตรีทจึงเป็นการเก็บสิ่งที่เข้ามา “จับ“ ความรู้สึกของเขา และสร้างหนังในแบบของเขาเอง

Living Spectrum is the collective work of Wongkot “Bryce” Watanasoponwong and Noppodal Maitreechit, two Thailand-based award-winning photographers who capture everyday life on the streets. Through their respective approaches, Bryce and Noppodal explore worlds most people pass by without noticing; where daily lives and situations open into stories of experience and perspective. The use of colour, in particular, is central to both artists as a metaphor for emotion and understanding the human condition that links us all. 16 Feb. 2019 At ILFORD Galerie Bangkok

About Artist
Wongkot “Bryce” Watanasoponwong, aka Gok, is a Thai-Australian freelance photographer. He was born in Bangkok, Thailand but spent half of his adulthood in Sydney, Australia. He is now currently based in Thailand, but still juggling between both countries.

His passion for photography began with a wedding, portrait and documentary style. Not until he discovered street photography and especially abstract elements of the street, then he realised that it is a genre that he wants to focus on.
“ When I go out on the street with my camera, I appreciate meeting new people from different cultures. I enjoy the raw reality of everyday life, the fleeting beauty, the quirkiness and the humour of those in-between moments, and I do my best to capture every scene with an open mind. While being on a street, I especially look for elements of the abstract. Colours, natural light, shapes, and textures are elements that I find most fascinating. It is through this process of discovery that I identify the subject matter and the abstract qualities I wish to emphasize,“ say Bryce.

About Noppadol
Noppadol Maitreechit was born and raised in Chumphon, a seaside province in Southern Thailand. He became serious in filmmaking, in particular in directing when he studied film at Rangsit university in Bangkok. He would watch a variety of movies and studied cinematography of these film especially in topics of compositions, sequencing for storytelling and using technique of colors in communication.(These are important components that he uses mostly in his photography). Noppadol made two short films prior to his graduation, namely Mom’s Presents (which won award for best cinematography category in the 3rd Bangkok Film Festival) and Cold Wind (nominated for best short film category).

After his graduation, Noppadol had a chance to work in a project called “Saving Private Tootsie” for Kittikorn “Leo” Liawsirikul, a director who once was his mentor when he was an apprentice on the film project called Goal Club. Subsequently, he was attached to multiple movies and TV series projects as an assistant director for several years.

During childhood, Noppadol’s grandma called him her little assistant in the kitchen. He would instinctively learned techniques of the right flavours a and picked up knowledge of cooking. His childhood was very simple and ordinary. When the film industry experienced the sluggish growth, Noppadol’s life reached a turning point. He was forced to decide his future whether continue doing what he loved or finding new life to earn a living.

Noppadol and his girlfriend decided to relocate to a new home in Wellington, New Zealand. Both had an opportunity to work at a Thai restaurant as kitchen assistants. During his time overseas, he would enjoy walking around town to observe people way of live with different ethnicities. He would carry an old film camera in his hands to capture pictures.

After spending peaceful life living abroad for more than four years, his employer discontinued the restaurant business and that had made Noppadol and his girlfriend to decide to return to his motherbirth land. Upon arriving in Bangkok, while trying to get around the city through the chaotic city traffic, Nappodol decided that his new profound life would be back in his hometown in Chumphon province. Both of them established a small restaurant.

Noppadol life became stable with his newly opened a small business, but he missed working in the film industry. He began taking still pictures with his mobile phones.

Back then, he started to see Tavepong Pratoomwong’’s posts on Facebook of street photography images. Tavepong is one of his juniors in the department of film while studying at Rangsit university. Then he realised that this was something he destined to do. He continued using his mobile phone and posted images on the Street Photo Thailand Facebook group. He changed to Sony Noppadol was invited to join Looper Collective, a group of street photographers based in Thailand founded by Nakarin Teerapenum (a.k.a. Golf T-Bone).

Noppadol had a chance to take part of world class street photography workshops taught by many world-class mentors including Maciej Dakowicz, David Solomons, Matt Stuart and Jesse Marlow.

Noppadol uses street photography to compensate his dream in filmmaking. When he goes out and about, he feels like he is out to make a movie. He does not know what type of film he is going to produce, but he just use his street photography skills to capture feeling and make a movie in his own individual way through street photography.
