นิทรรศการ "คู่ขนาน : Parallel" ผลงานโดย ปิติเกษม นิลวงศ์ (Pitikasem Nilavongse) จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 19 สิงหาคม - 10 กันยายน 2561 และจะมีพิธีเปิดในวันอาทิตย์ที่ 19 สิงหาคม 2561 เวลา 17:00 น. ณ ARTIST+RUN

‘Parallel’ an exhibition by Pitikasem Nilavongse

ภาพวาดปรากฎร่างของผู้ชายผิวขาวชาวยุโรป ในมือขวาถือปืนยาวแบบโบราณ กำลังล้มลงบนพื้นที่มีอุณหภูมิบริเวณเส้นศูนย์สูตร เหมือนภาพจากสารคดีข่าวสงคราม หรือไม่ก็ภาพนิ่งจากภาพยนตร์ย้อนยุคฮอลลิวู๊ด จุดเด่นสำคัญของภาพคือคำว่า ‘LIFE’ ที่ใช้รูปแบบอักษรเดียวกับ นิตยสาร ‘LIFE’

ภาพนามธรรมสีเทา เขียว และเหลือง ถูกควบคุมอยู่ในโทนเดียว ระนาบของสีซ้อนทับพื้นที่อันสับสนวุ่นวายด้านหลัง เส้นแบนหนาสานทับเกิดเป็นรูปร่างของตาข่าย เจาะช่องทะลุ เปิดเผยให้เห็นเพียงบางส่วน งานจิตรกรรมนามธรรมที่ตรึงความรู้สึกเอาไว้ด้วยเส้นสีที่เรียบง่าย ทว่ากระตุ้นความคิดซับซ้อน

ภาพทั้ง 2 สองลักษณะ เป็นผลงานของ ปิติเกษม นิลวงศ์ ศิลปินไทยที่พำนักอยู่ที่เมืองแมนเชสเตอร์ ประเทศอังกฤษ ตั้งแต่ปี 2005 จนถึงปัจจุบัน ปิติเกษมเกิดที่กรุงเทพ เรียนที่วิทยาลัยช่างศิลป์ และจบปริญญาตรีจากคณะวิจิตรศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ เข้าเรียนระดับปริญญาตรีสาขา Fine Art ที่ Manchester school of Art ก่อนจะจบ MA Fine Art ที่มหาวิทยาลัยเดียวกันในอีก 4 ปีถัดมา ระหว่างพำนักที่ประเทศอังกฤษ ปิติเกษม ประกอบอาชีพมาแล้วหลายรูปแบบ ตั้งแต่เด็กเสิร์ฟในร้านอาหาร ขับแท๊กซี่ ไปจนถึงเป็นพ่อค้าวัตถุโบราณในย่าน Bayswater กลางกรุงลอนดอน

งานศิลปะของ ปิติเกษม ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจมาจากความทรงจำก่อนเดินทางไปใช้ชีวิตในต่างแดน เขาสนใจผลงานจิตรกรรมทั้งแบบร่วมสมัยและวิธีการใช้สีแบบโบราณ นำวิธีการต่างๆ มาผสมผสานกับเทคนิคการวาด เขาพัฒนารูปแบบและเทคนิคการใช้สีที่มีลักษณะเฉพาะ สีที่เกิดจากการผสมกันทั้งหมดของแม่สี เพียง 3 สีเท่านั้น

งานหลายชิ้นเกิดจากความพยายามตัดทอนสาระเพื่อสร้างบริบทใหม่ ซึ่งภาพถูกสร้างซ้อนทับอยู่กับภาพที่พบเห็นจากปกนิตยสาร หรือ โปสเตอร์โฆษณาในยุคโบราณ ธรรมชาติของจิตรกรรม ระนาบ และความลึกของทัศนียภาพลวงตา คือสนามของการต่อรอง ทั้งหมดเกี่ยวข้องกับวัฒนธรรมการมอง และความทรงจำ

รูปธรรมในงานจิตรกรรมคือนามธรรมในอีกรูปแบบหนึ่ง แม้ว่าปลายของเส้นคู่ขนานจะไม่มีทางมาบรรจบกัน แต่ระยะห่างของช่องว่างระหว่างเส้นคู่ขนานนั้นอยู่ใกล้กันจนแยกไม่ออก

The first painting, which depicts a Caucasian man, with a traditional rifle in his right hand, falling on a high-temperature equatorial area, looks like images from war-related features or Hollywood retro movies. Its highlight is the word 'LIFE,’ the font of which is the same as that on 'LIFE' magazine.

The other painting is an abstract in which gray, green and yellow colors are controlled to be in the same tone. The color plane is superimposed on chaotic space, as its background. Woven thick flat lines create a mesh shape with holes and part of it is revealed. This abstract is impressive as a result of lines which are simple but trigger complex ideas.

Both paintings were created by Mr. Pitikasem Ninlawong, a Thai artist who has resided in Manchester, England since 2005 until now. He was born in Bangkok, Thailand, where he studied at the College of Fine Arts. He obtained his first bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University. Later, he completed BA Fine Art at the Manchester School of Art, and four years later, from the same school, he completed MA Fine Art. During his stay in England, he did various kinds of jobs, ranging from a waiter, taxi driver, to antique dealer in Bayswater in the heart of London.

Pitikasem’s art works have been inspired by his memories before he moved to live overseas. He is interested in contemporary fine arts and ancient coloring techniques. He has integrated different methods with drawing techniques. He’s developed a unique color technique which uses only three primary colors.

Many of his works are the product of an attempt to abridge the essence of things to create new contexts, whereby pictures are created by being overlaid with pictures from magazine covers or retro posters. The nature of the fine arts, planes, and the depth of the illusion perspective is a site of struggle – all are related to visual culture and memories.

The tangibility of paintings is another form of abstractness. Although the ends of the parallel lines will never converge, the distance of the gaps between parallel lines is so close.
