นิทรรศการ "Reckless" ผลงานโดย ตะวัน วัตุยา (Tawan Wattuya) จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 30 มิถุนายน – 22 กันยายน 2561 และจะมีพิธีเปิดในวันเสาร์ที่ 30 มิถุนายน 2561 เวลา 17.00 น. ณ Toot Yung Art Center

Tawan Wattuya’s acute perceptiveness of global contemporary societies, infuse his work with a latent brutality exquisitely balanced with his masterful watercolor technique on soft bamboo paper. Carefully selected paintings on paper produced over the past 5 years, have been put together to display the artist’s vision of a world loosing track of its ethics, morality and aspirations.

Women are presented as being sold in a meat market, cars are wrecked, we see menu-like paintings of guns and bombs, underlined with dark humor to express the artist’s views of a decaying society; The composition of floating objects, animals and people placed in rows, evoke a sense of primitive social order; It points out an obligation to adapt to certain criterias, dictated by oppressive governments and a globalized social order.

Tawan Wattuya (b.1973) is best known for his distinctive approach to watercolor and thought-provoking subjects. His choice of medium is a clear attempt to convey the speed and dynamism he perceives in contemporary Thai society. He consciously chooses to view his homeland from a distance, studying the social and political situation from afar in order to explore with depth and understand both his hometown and the different places he encounters. Whether portraying the glittering terra cotta warriors of China or making sketches of the old fishermen he met in Okinawa, it is clear that Wattuya’s paintings are always poetic, personal, but nevertheless provocative in terms of his critical engagement with current issues. He is considered today one of Thailands' most unique and engaged painters. His works have been exhibited extensively in Bangkok, Singapore, Beijing, Tokyo, Paris, New York Etc.

The Toot Yung Art Center supports contemporary artists (painters, sculptors, craftsmen, photographers, designers, musicians, film makers) who put traditional craft and authenticity at the heart of their practice. Toot Yung Art Center's ambition is to bring the best of Thailand to the world and the best of the world to Thailand. More specifically to its new home in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai.

French artist and curator, based in Thailand since 2006, Myrtille Tibayrenc is the founder and director of the Toot Yung Art Center. Thai national Udom Dansakchai, designer of the space, is an astute art collector and patron of the Art Center since 2018.

ความเฉลียวฉลาดของตะวัน วัตุยา เกี่ยวกับโลกของสังคมร่วมสมัยทำให้งานของเขาเต็มไปด้วยความโหดร้ายที่แฝงอยู่อย่างลงตัวด้วยเทคนิคสีน้ำที่เก่งกาจของเขาบนกระดาษไผ่ที่อ่อนนุ่ม ผ่านการคัดสรรภาพเขียนบนกระดาษมาอย่างพิถีพิถันในช่วง 5 ปีที่ผ่านมาเพื่อแสดงวิสัยทัศน์ของศิลปินเกี่ยวกับการสูญเสียจริยธรรม ศีลธรรมและแรงบันดาลใจในโลกปัจจุบัน

ผู้หญิงถูกนำเสนอในรูปแบบการถูกขายในตลาดเนื้อสัตว์ รถยนต์ที่พังยับเยิน เราจะเห็นภาพวาดของปืนและระเบิดที่ถูกเน้นด้วยอารมณ์ตลกร้ายเพื่อแสดงมุมมองของศิลปินเกี่ยวกับสังคมที่ผุพัง องค์ประกอบของวัตถุลอยตัว สัตว์และคนที่เรียงแถวกันทำให้เกิดความรู้สึกของระเบียบทางสังคมแบบดั้งเดิม; ชี้ให้เห็นถึงหน้าที่ในการปรับตัวให้เข้ากับเกณฑ์ที่กำหนดโดยรัฐบาลที่กดดันและลำดับสังคมของโลกาภิวัตน์

ตะวัน วัตุยา (เกิดปีพ.ศ. 2516) เป็นที่รู้จักกันดีสำหรับความโดดเด่นในผลงานสีน้ำและหัวข้อที่กระตุ้นความคิด เขาเลือกสื่อที่แสดงความพยายามที่ชัดเจนในการถ่ายทอดความรวดเร็วและความกระปรี้กระเปร่าที่เขารับรู้ในสังคมไทยปัจจุบัน เขาเลือกที่จะสังเกตภูมิลำเนาของเขาจากระยะไกลเพื่อศึกษาสถานการณ์ทางสังคมและการเมืองเพื่อที่จะได้เข้าใจความลึกซึ้งทั้งบ้านเกิดของเขาและที่ต่าง ๆ ที่เขาพบเห็น ไม่ว่าจะเป็นภาพวาดนักรบ Terra Cotta ของจีนหรือการร่างภาพของชาวประมงที่เขาพบในโอะกินะวะก็เป็นที่ชัดเจนว่าภาพวาดของตะวัน วัตุยา มักจะเป็นบทกวีส่วนบุคคล แต่ยังเร้าใจในแง่ของการมีส่วนร่วมกับประเด็นสังคมปัจจุบัน เขาได้รับการพิจารณาให้เป็นหนึ่งในศิลปินที่มีเอกลักษณ์และมีส่วนร่วมมากที่สุดของประเทศ ผลงานของเขาได้รับการจัดแสดงอย่างกว้างขวางในกรุงเทพฯ สิงคโปร์ ปักกิ่ง โตเกียว ปารีส นิวยอร์ก ฯลฯ

ศูนย์ศิลปะ Toot Yung สนับสนุนศิลปินร่วมสมัย (จิตรกร ช่างประติมากร ช่างฝีมือ ช่างภาพ นักออกแบบ นัก-ดนตรี ผู้ผลิตภาพยนตร์) ผู้ที่ใส่ฝีมือแบบดั้งเดิมและหัวใจของการทำงานของพวกเขา ความตั้งใจของ Toot Yung Art Center คือการนำสิ่งที่ดีที่สุดของไทยไปสู่โลกและและนำสิ่งที่ดีที่สุดโลกมาสู่ประเทศไทย โดยเฉพาะบ้านใหม่ในแม่ริมจังหวัดเชียงใหม่

ศิลปินและภัณฑารักษ์ชาวฝรั่งเศส ตั้งรากฐานที่ประเทศไทยในปีพ. ศ. 2549 Myrtille Tibayrenc เป็นผู้ก่อตั้งและผู้อำนวยการศูนย์ศิลปะ Toot Yung โดยนายอุดม ด่านศักดิ์ชัย ผู้ออกแบบพื้นที่แห่งนี้ เป็นนักสะสมศิลปะและผู้มีพระคุณของศูนย์ศิลปะตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2561
