ตะวัน วัตุยา : หนีเสือปะจระเข้ คืองานแสดงผลงานจิตรกรรมสีน้ำมันชุดล่าสุด ของ ตะวัน วัตุยา จัดแสดงที่ ARTIST+RUN at N22 ถนนนราธิวาสราชนครินทร์ ซอย 22 ครับกรุงเทพฯ

นิทรรศการในครั้งนี้ จะเป็นการรวบรวมจิตรกรรมสีน้ำมันตั้งแต่ปี 2005 ของตะวัน วัตุยาเมื่อครั้งที่ ตะวัน วาดภาพใบหน้าของผู้คนที่ปรากฎอยู่ในหน้าหนังสือพิมพ์ที่คัดสรรแล้ว กว่า 30 ภาพ นำมาจัดแสดงรวมกับ ผลงานภาพจิตรกรรมสีน้ำมันภาพบุคคลที่ปรากฎในสื่ออินเตอร์เนต ที่เริ่มวาดมาตั้งแต่ปี 2017

จากหน้าหนังสือพิมพ์สู่สื่อโซเชียลมีเดียส์ ความตายของแผ่นกระดาษสู่การเกิดใหม่ของทัชสกรีน ศิลปินอย่างตะวัน ยังคงทำงานจิตรกรรมที่สีน้ำมันที่แสนโบราณคร่ำครึ ในยุคสมัยที่ป่าไม่มีเสือคลองไม่มีจระเข้

ระยะเวลาห่างกันกว่า 12 ปี ที่บันทึกเรื่องราวความเป็นไปรายวันของสังคมผ่านใบหน้าบุคคลสำคัญที่ปรากฎเป็นข่าว ใบหน้าเหล่านี้บอกอะไรแก่เราได้บ้าง? เมื่อจ้องมองไปที่ร่องรอยของสีน้ำมันที่ถูกพู่กันตวัดวาดทิ้งไว้บนผิวแคนวาส เค้าลางของใบหน้าบุคคลที่คุ้นเคย จนดูเหมือนว่าเขาเหล่านั้นมีชีวิตอยู่ ท่ามกลางเวลาและความเจริญที่ไม่ได้ออกเดินไปข้างหน้า แต่กลับวกวนเวียนอยู่กับเราและเรื่องราวเดิมๆ 12 ปีที่สังคมของเราพยายามวิ่งหนีเสือ เพื่อกระโดดโจนลงไปหาจระเข้?

ตะวัน วัตุยา เกิดเมื่อปี 2516 ที่กรุงเทพมหานคร เรียนจบปริญญาตรี จากคณะจิตรกรรม ประติมากรรมและภาพพิมพ์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร ตะวันเริ่มต้นจากการเขียนภาพสีน้ำมันสีจัดจ้าน เรื่องราวจากสื่อสังคมร่วมสมัย แต่มาสร้างชื่อเสียงจากการเขียนสีน้ำใบหน้าบุคคลสำคัญในนิทรรศการที่ใช้ชื่อว่า “ห้าร้อย(500)” จัดแสดงที่ Sarazine Gallery เมื่อปี 2005 และ “Siamese Freaks” ที่ Numthong Gallery เมื่อปี 2007 หลังจากนั้น ตะวัน เริ่มเดินสายแสดงผลงานทั้งใน และต่างประเทศ เช่น ฝรั่งเศส จีน ไต้หวัน สวิสเซอแลนด์ ญี่ปุ่น เบลเยี่ยม และ ผลงานล่าสุด “Monsters, Villains & Hellbent Politicians” จัดแสดงที่ The Lodge Gallery, New York สหรัฐอเมริกา ยังได้รับเสียงตอบรับอย่างดีเยี่ยม

This exhibition is a collection of Tawan Wattuya’s oil paintings from 2005, when he painted the faces of the key persons who appeared in more than 30 selected newspapers, together with his paintings of the key persons who appeared on social media in 2017 onward.

From the newspaper to the social media, from the death of a paper sheet to the birth of a touch screen, the artist like Tawan still chooses to work on oil paintings: the old-fashioned type of art making.

Now, in the era when a forest has no tiger, a canal has no crocodiles, over a period of more than 12 years, he daily records the social scenes through the faces of the prominent persons. What are these faces telling us?

Looking at the traces of the oil paint that was flushed out on canvas, the faces of familiar persons, it seems like they are alive. In time and prosperity, things do not go forward but they return to us: the same old stories. Throughout 12 years, our society has been trying to run away from tigers: are we jumping out to find crocodiles instead?

Tawan Wattuya was born in 1973 in Bangkok. He graduated a Bachelor Degree from the Faculty of Painting, Sculptures and prints in Silpakorn University. He began his works with oil paintings, which he painted the stories selected from mass media at the time. He then gained a reputation from the paintings of the faces of the key persons in the exhibition called "Five Hundreds (500)” at the Sarazine Gallery in 2005 and "Siamese Freaks" at Numthong Gallery in 2007. Thereafter, he started to have a number of exhibitions abroad such as in France, China, Taiwan, Switzerland, Japan and Belgium. Recently, he has an exhibition called "Monsters, Villains & Hellbent Politicians" at The Lodge Gallery, New York, USA which also receives a great response.
