นิทรรศการ "พื้นที่เพื่อการดำรงอยู่ : A Space to Exist" ผลงานโดย Gi-ok Joen จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 3 กันยายน - 2 ตุลาคม 2559 และจะมีพิธีเเปิดในวันที่ 3 กันยายน 2559 เวลา 18.00 น. ณ Subhashok The Arts Centre (S.A.C.) : ศุภโชค ดิ อาร์ต เซนเตอร์

About Artist:
Gi-ok Joen, born in Korea, received her BFA in painting in Seoul, received her MFA in Chinese painting from the prestigious Beijing Central Academy of Fine arts, moved to Bangkok and continued to study printmaking from the Department of Visual Arts & Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts at Chulalongkorn. It’s not hard to discover that she is an innovative multi-media artist combining many different techniques; from embroidery to woodcuts to painting to weaving, her quest for artistic knowledge has led her to possess an inspiring arsenal of skills. She uses these diverse methods to touch upon content that is associated with multicultural identity, motherhood, and daily life; referencing her Korean heritage, Chinese aesthetic and Thai life at all times. Her solo exhibitions have been held at the Beijing International Art Palace Museum and Chulalongkorn University, also joining in group exhibitions at the Korean Cultural Center of Thailand, the Center of Visual Art Boda in Seoul, the Mu Project in Washington D.C and the Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum in Beijing.

Gi-ok Joen เกิดที่ประเทศเกาหลี สำเร็จการศึกษาในระดับปริญญาตรี ด้านจิตรกรรมในโซล และศึกษาต่อจนสำเร็จปริญญาโทจาก Beijing Central Academy of Fine Arts อันเป็นสถาบันการศึกษาด้านศิลปะชั้นนำของประเทศจีน เธอย้ายมาอาศัยในกรุงเทพฯ และเริ่มศึกษาด้านภาพพิมพ์ที่ภาควิชาทัศนศิลป์ คณะศิลปกรรมศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย เธอเป็นศิลปินงานสื่อผสมที่มาพร้อมกับความคิดแปลกใหม่ รวบรวมเทคนิคหลากหลายเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน ตั้งแต่งานปักไปจนถึงงานภาพพิมพ์แกะไม้จากการวาด ไปจนถึงการทอ การเสาะแสวงหาความรู้ใหม่ๆ ทางด้านศิลปะอย่างต่อเนื่องช่วยให้เธอมีขุมคลังแห่งทักษะอันหลากหลาย Gi-ok เลือกใช้วิธีการเหล่านี้ในการถ่ายทอดเนื้อหาใจความที่เกี่ยวเนื่องกับอัตลักษณ์/ตัวตนที่มีความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรม, ความเป็นแม่, และรวมไปถึงเรื่องราวในชีวิตประจำวัน โดยทั้งหมดยังคงเกี่ยวพันถึงสิ่งที่ตกทอดมาจากวัฒนธรรมเกาหลี, สุนทรียะตามแบบฉบับของจีน และชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ในประเทศไทย เธอเคยจัดแสดงผลงานเดี่ยว ทั้งที่ Beijing International Art Palace Museum และที่จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย นอกจากนี้เธอยังเคยร่วมในนิทรรศการกลุ่ม ทั้งที่ศูนย์วัฒนธรรมเกาหลี ในกรุงเทพฯ, Center of Visual Art Boda ในโซล, Mu Project ในวอชิงตัน ดี.ซี. และ Central Academy of Fine Arts ในปักกิ่ง

For this new exhibition “A Space to Exist”, she continues to develop her series on her daughter following her last exhibition “Playful Prayer” in 2011. This is her first solo exhibition in the past 5 years, and she has changed some emotional perspectives in her latest work. She recorded her daughter’s development from 2011 to 2016, Her current perspective has seen the image of her daughter being transformed from her maternal perspective into a stand-alone symbol of multiculturalism.

สำหรับนิทรรศการครั้งใหม่ “A Space to Exist – พื้นที่เพื่อการดำรงอยู่” Gi-ok ยังคงพัฒนางานในชุดนี้โดยใช้ภาพของลูกสาวต่อเนื่องมาจากผลงานที่จัดแสดงในนิทรรศการครั้งก่อน “Playful Prayer – หยอกเย้า เว้าวอน” เมื่อปี 2011นิทรรศการเดี่ยวครั้งนี้นับเป็นการแสดงผลงานครั้งแรกในรอบ 5 ปี และในครั้งนี้ เธอได้เลือกใช้มุมมองที่ต่างออกไปในการถ่ายทอดอารมณ์ออกมาในผลงาน Gi-ok บันทึกภาพพัฒนาการของลูกสาวเก็บไว้มาโดยตลอดตั้งแต่ปี 2011-2016จนถึงวันนี้มุมมองของเธอที่มีต่อภาพของลูกสาวได้เปลี่ยนแปลงไป จากภาพของลูกสาวที่ถูกรับรู้ด้วยมุมมองของผู้เป็นแม่ ในวันนี้ลูกสาวของเธอได้กลายเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของความหลากหลายทางวัฒนธรรมด้วยตัวของเธอเอง
