เชียงรายและภูมิภาคในภาคเหนือได้รับผลกระทบจากฝุ่นควัน pm 2.5 ตลอดในช่วง 10 ปีที่ผ่านมา ฝุ่นละอองขนาดเล็ก PM2.5 จะทำให้เกิดการอักเสบภายในร่างกาย เข้าไปทำลายระบบต่างๆ ในเซลล์ของปอด ทำให้เกิดโรคทั้งระบบหัวใจและหลอดเลือดและมะเร็งในระยะยาว โดยฝุ่นควันนั้นมาจากการเผาในประเทศของพื้นที่เกษตรกรรม ไฟป่าและยังมีควันจากประเทศเพื่อนบ้านอย่างลาว พม่า

เชียงรายในฐานะเมืองชายแดน ที่มลพิษไร้พรมแดนนั้น ส่งผลกระทบต่อการดำเนินชีวิตของผู้คนในพื้นที่เป็นอย่างมาก ทำให้ศิลปินแม่ญิงฯ ในฐานะประจักษ์พยานร่วมเหตุการณ์และเป็นผู้ประสบภัย ต้องการแสดงออกถึงความจริง ความหวัง ความฝัน โดยได้สร้างสรรค์งานศิลปะเสมือนเป็นการบันทึกประวัติศาสตร์ เหตุการณ์ปัจจุบัน ที่จะสะท้อนไปถึงเพื่อนร่วมโลก การส่งเสียงเล็กๆ ของเรา จากมุมหนึ่งของพื้นที่ห่างไกลจากศูนย์กลาง เพื่อหวังว่าในอนาคตเราจะมีสิทธิ์ มีอากาศหายใจที่ดีกว่านี้

For the past decade, Chiangrai and neighbouring provinces have been severely affected by air pollution, primarily the result of burning anything - from household rubbish to widespread forest and field crop clearances - within Thailand and outside our borders.. The resultant smog is hazardous to the health of us all and closes the doors on our daily lives and future well being.

The Maeying Artists collective have created a body of work to express our views of this harsh reality, to help raise awareness of the issues. As women artists, we are deeply invested in oùr local communities and wish for a future where clean air is a fundamental right for all.
