นิทรรศการ “Un-Folding Works – Past, Present and Forever” ผลงานโดย ราบิ้น ฮาสเซิน (Rabin Huissen) จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 13 ตุลาคม - 13 พฤศจิกายน 2562 ณ PHŒBUS• Rotterdam : รอตเตอร์ดัม เนเธอร์แลนด์

ราบิ้น ฮาสเซิน ศิลปินชาวเนเธอแลนด์ เผยความทรงจำระหว่างเป็นศิลปินในพำนักในประเทศไทยและ ประเทศเมียนมาร์ ในการแสดงผลงานเดี่ยว ภายใต้ชื่อ “Un-Folding Works – Past, Present and Forever” ณ บ้านเกิดของเขา

ราบิ้น ฮาสเซิน ศิลปินแนวคอนเซ็ปท์ชวลชาวเนเธอแลนด์ เผยความทรงจำของเขาในการแสดงผลงาน เดี่ยวล่าสุดภายใต้ชื่อ “Un-Folding Works– Past, Present and Forever” ณ เมืองรอตเตอร์ดาม ประเทศเนเธอร์แลนด์ ตั้งแต่วันที่ 13 ตุลาคม – 13 พฤศจิกายน 2562 นิทรรศการในครั้งนี้ศิลปินได้มีการสร้างสรรค์งานขึ้นในประเทศไทย ได้แก่ กรุงเทพมหานคร เกาะเสม็ด จ.ระยอง และธัญบุรี จ.ปทุมธานี รวมถึงเมืองย่างกุ้งและฮเวซวง ประเทศเมียนมาร์ จะถูกจัดแสดงขึ้นที่ Phoebus Rotterdam อันเป็นแกลอรี่ศิลปะร่วมสมัยเป็นที่รู้จักกันดีในบ้านเกิดของศิลปินผู้นี้ แกลอรี่แห่งนี้ ยืนหยัดอยู่ในวงการศิลปะมานานเกือบสามทศวรรษแล้ว

“Un-Folding Works” นั้นมีทั้งภาพถ่าย กล่องสีขาว ศิลปะในรูปแบบไปรษณีย์ ประติมากรรม และธง ซึ่งทั้งหมดนั้น ต่างก็สื่อเป็นนัยถึงช่วงเวลาบางขณะของชีวิตของศิลปิน ภาพพิมพ์ที่ถูกจัดทำขึ้นตาม ลำดับเวลานั้นเป็นหลักฐานที่แสดงถึงประสบการณ์ทางกายอันเป็นส่วนตัวและห้วงความคิดของ ศิลปิน ที่มีต่อการเดินทางของเขาผ่านการใช้ชีวิตประจำวันและการถูกเปิดเผยจากกฎเกณฑ์และภาพ ลวงของสังคม ความทรงจำเหล่านี้ถูกรวบรวมและเก็บบันทึกลงในกล่องสีขาว และถูกนำเสนอว่าเป็น ของขวัญจากศิลปินที่จะถูกเปิดออกและถูก “ปลุกขึ้นมา” โดยผู้ก่อตั้ง

ในขณะเดียวกัน ภายในจดหมายรักแต่ละฉบับและพัสดุไปรษณีย์ (ศิลปะในรูปแบบไปรษณีย์)​ แต่ละ กล่องมีชุดคำสั่งบรรจุอยู่ ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่ศิลปินขอให้เพื่อนหรือคนแปลกหน้าที่ได้รับจดหมายแต่ละฉบับ หรือพัสดุไปรษณีย์แต่ละกล่อง ที่ได้ส่งถึงให้ทำตามคำสั่งนั้น โดยคำสั่งแต่ละชุดถูกออกแบบมาบน พื้นฐานของบุคลิกลักษณะของผู้รับ และความสัมพันธ์ที่มีกับตัวศิลปิน สุดท้ายแล้วชิ้นงานจะเสร็จสมบูรณ์เมื่อผองเพื่อนและบรรดาคนแปลกหน้าได้ทำตามคำสั่งนั้นอย่างครบถ้วน โดยระหว่างที่มี การจัดแสดงงานนี้ผู้รับจดหมายและพัสดุไปรษณีย์ทุกคนจะได้รับเชิญให้มาพูดถึงชิ้นงานในบรรยากาศอันเป็นส่วนตัว และถือเป็นการสร้างความทรงจำใหม่ๆ ขึ้นมา

“ผลงานที่ถูกจัดแสดงทั้ งหมดนั้น สื่อสารอย่างพิถีพิถันถึงความข้องเกี่ยวกันระหว่างความเป็นส่วนตัว กับความเป็นสาธารณะ: การเก็บและแบ่งปันความลับ” ฮาสเซินกล่าว ในฐานะศิลปินผู้ใช้ร่างกายของ ตัวเองในการรังสรรค์ผลงานขึ้นมา ผลงานของเขาจัดว่าเป็นคอลเล็กชั่นความทรงจำส่วนตัวที่เขารักใคร่และทะนุถนอม ซึ่งเขาได้แบ่งปัน กับผู้เข้าชมงานอย่างเป็นนัยๆ และเปรียบเหมือนชิ้นส่วนจิ๊กซอว์ที่เปิดโอกาสให้เราได้เห็นชีวิตของเขา เป็นการส่วนตัว การแสดงงานครั้งนี้เป็นการสำรวจของศิลปินที่มีต่อเวลา สถานที่ ผู้คน และสิ่งของ ต่างๆ  ผลงานต่างๆ ถูกรังสรรค์ขึ้นระหว่างที่เขาพำนักและเดินทางในประเทศไทยและประเทศ เมียนมาร์ ระหว่างปี พ.ศ.2561-พ.ศ.2562 ในการทำงานศิลปะของเขา ฮาสเซิน ปรารถนาที่จะคงไว้ ซึ่งความมีชีวิตชีวาของช่วงเวลาต่างๆ และที่จะเชื่อมโยงเรื่องในอดีตของเขาเข้ากับเรื่องในอดีตของ คนอื่นๆ

“นอกเหนือจากการทำงานศิลปะแล้ว ผมยังสอนศิลปะให้แก่ผู้สูงอายุที่ป่วยด้วยสภาวะสมองเสื่อม อีกด้วย”​ฮาสเซินกล่าว “เมื่ออยู่กับพวกเขา ผมได้เห็นว่าความทรงจำมีคุณค่าเหลือเกิน สำหรับ พวกเขาแล้ว บางครั้ง ความทรงจำหนึ่งๆ ก็อยู่ตรงนั้นอย่างชัดเจน และบางครั้งมันก็ถูกซุกซ่อน ไว้ไกลออกไป แต่ถ้าคุณสามารถกดปุ่ม ที่ถูกต้องได้ละก็ มันก็จะปรากฏขึ้นมาอีกครั้งในทันที” ที่งาน “Un-Folding Works – Past, Present and Forever” นั้น ความทรงจำและความลับของ ฮาสเซิน กำลังเฝ้ารอใครก็ตามที่มีความอยากรู้อยากเห็นอยู่เต็มเปี่ยม

Dutch artist Rabin Huissen to unfold memories from his residencies in Thailand and Myanmar in solo show titled “Un-Folding Works – Past, Present and Forever”in his home city

Dutch conceptual artist Rabin Huissen is unfolding his memories in his latest solo show titled “Un-Folding Works – Past, Present and Forever” in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from 13 October to 13 November 2019. The new body of work, conceived in Bangkok, Ko Samet and Thanyaburi in Thailand, and Yangon and Ngwe Saung in Myanmar, will be on display at the Phoebus Rotterdam, a well-known contemporary art gallery in the artist’s home city that has been in business for almost three decades.

“Un-Folding Works” features photography, white boxes, mail art, sculptures and a flag, all alluding to specific moments in time in the artist’s life. The time-based photographic prints are evidence of an intimate body experience and the artist’s reflection on his travelling out of everyday life and being unmasked from social roles and masks. These memories are collected and archived in white boxes, presented as gifts from the artist and to be opened and “activated” by the gallerist for the gallery visitors. Exhibited on the walls of the gallery to offer some sort of timeline, they are secrets from the artist’s personal life unfolded for the public.

Meanwhile, each of the love letters and postal boxes (mail art) contains a set of instructions, a favour that the artist has asked of a friend or a stranger to whom each letter or box was addressed. The instructions were thought out based on the personality of the recipients and their relationships with him. The works were finalized as the instructions were followed by these friends and strangers. During the exhibition period, all the recipients will be invited to talk about the works in an intimating setting, thus creating new memories.

“All the exhibited works carefully articulate a relation between private and public: keeping and sharing secrets,” says Huissen. As an artist who uses his own body to create art, his works are a collection of cherished personal memories, which he subtly shares with the audiences, appearing like jigsaw pieces that offer an intimate glimpse of his life. This exhibition is an on-going exploration of his preoccupation with time, places, people and objects. The works were created during his residencies and travels in Thailand and Myanmar in 2018 and 2019. In his art practice, Huissen yearns to preserve the energy of moments and to connect his history with the histories of others.

“Apart from my art practice I also teach arts to demented elderly people,” Huissen says. “With them I see that memories have great value. With them sometimes a memory is clearly there and sometimes it’s far hidden, but if you can push the right buttons, it can suddenly appear again.” At “Un-Folding Works – Past, Present and Forever”, Huissen’s memories and secrets await anyone’s curiosity.
